Understanding The Managers of India

- By Joshua Simon T.

The problem statement is “Understanding The Managers of India”. Whether it may be India or any
other country, the relationship between an employee and a manager plays a very crucial role in
stabilizing the work environment. Though there were several bad circumstances happen between an
employee and a manager, there were some good things too. It’s more like an individual’s mindset on
how to treat the employees working below them. The perception of managerial effectiveness
significantly impacts employee satisfaction, engagement and overall organizational performance. A
positive and supportive manager-employee relationship fosters a sense of trust, motivation and job
satisfaction among employees. Effective communication and feedback mechanisms play a very
strengthening role in shaping employee perceptions of their managers. It will be good if the
managers recognize their employees work and appreciate them now and then. In that way, the
employee feels good too and he’ll work with a positive mindset. There are some managers who like
to play with their employees just to torture them and enjoy it. I’m not blaming the managerial
position, but it’s an individual mentality on how to treat their co-workers and below staff. There are
some managers who tends to give more work to the male employees than female ones. I worked
under a boss too and I would like to share my experience.

I used to work as a Data Entry Operator cum a personal assistant for a Mandal Revenue Officer. Me
and 2 other guys work under him. He was very cool and he has never ever treated us bad. He always
supported us and believed in us. And we were very punctual and we complete the task before the
deadline and never argued with him. Days are going and he started making us work the whole nights
too. Actually, we come to the office at 10 A.M and leave at 7 P.M. Sometimes he makes us work for
24 hours because of the work. The work won’t be that big, we could have done that the next day
too. But he kind of forced us to work in the night too. Our homes were very far from the office. So,
we had to stay there for the next day work and we would go the next day evening. So technically we
work for 40 hours. Every week we worked at least once like this. It was very struggling. He didn’t
understand our situation and our families too. But we kept on working like that. Later I resigned and
went for higher studies. I always thought why would he do that? Doesn’t he think we have families
too and we need rest too? We had some bad opinion about him in our mind. But we haven’t brought
this thing to him. Maybe the people who are working under him now are also struggling like this. I
say to myself I should’ve explained it to him how hard it was so he won’t make others to go through
what we went through.

See, the communication between the employees and the managers are very important. It eliminates
half of the misconceptions and misunderstandings. And sometimes managers too are treated bad by
their higher staff. And they’ll be pressurized too just like the normal employees. But how they take it
and how they work on it with a positive attitude and a problem-solving mindset without putting the
same pressure on the lower staff is what it’s all about. Managerial behavior that promotes a healthy
work-life balance and recognizes employee achievements leads to higher levels of employee morale
and loyalty.
