The class will be task to hunt boxes hidden
inside the classroom within 30 seconds. One
box has a hidden reward, two boxes have
hidden treasure and the rest are empty. After
the hunt, they must open the boxes and they
must answer questions to receive the
rewards.
“A thermometer ma’am.”
“What have you found?” “A thermal scanner gun ma’am.”

“They are used to measure temperature.”

“What is the function of these objects?”
“Yes ma’am! It’s about measuring
“Very good! Now, do you have any idea on temperature!”
what our topic is today?”

“Good job! We are going to discuss about

measuring temperature. To start, let us first
have our learning objectives. At the end of
our discussion, you will be able to:

o define temperature;
o measure temperature using
thermometer; and
o tell the importance of thermometer in
our life.

b. Activity Yes ma’am.

TEAMWORK TIME
Before we will have our discussion, let us
first have an activity. Are you ready? None ma’am.

Now, I will group you into four.

(Left Side: 1st row and 2nd row will be the
group 1 while 3rd and 4th row will be the
group 2.
Right Side: 1st row and 2nd row will be the
group 3 while 3rd and 4th row will be the
group 4.) (Moves to their groups’ place)
Any reactions regarding your groups?

to your groups. Measure and read the body temperature of each
chosen person by putting the digital
thermometer under the armpits. Record and
compare the results with the other pupils.

Group 2: Read and record the thermometer

readings given.

Group 3: Write if it’s HOT or COLD.

Celsius)
b. Picture of a Desert (40 degress Celsius)
c. Picture of a cold glass of water
d. Picture of a cup of coffee

Group 4: Match each Thermometer images to its

correct Temperature Reading Cards .

(After 10 minutes, they are now ready to pass

their finished task)

“Yes ma’am.”

Did you enjoy the activity? “Using the thermometer ma’am.”

Now, I want you to tell me and your

classmates how were you able to read and Group 1 Presenter: We were able to read the

Let us start with the Group 1. putting the thermometer in their armpits. And
we based our reading on the number shown in
the thermometer.

Nice answer Group 1. Using the digital

thermometer, they were able to know the
body temperature of their chosen groupmate. Group 2 Presenter: we were given thermometer
reading and our task is to write those readings.
How about Group 2, what task is assigned to We were able to read and measure the

Now, let us have the Group 3. Same question
with the group 2, what task is given to you? I think so ma’am.

Were you able to do it properly? It is because the temperature is already given.

And why is that?

Job well done Group 3. They were able to do

the task using the readings on the images
given to them. Group 4 Presenter: our group was given 2 sets
of cards, one set of thermometer images and one

Amazing work Group 4. They were able to

match the correct temperature reading
through where the red mark stops in the
thermometer. (Clap clap clap)

Let us give ourselves a round of applause for

doing the activity properly. You are all
amazing.

c. Analysis and Discussion

Now, let us watch a short video clip video
entitled “Reading a Thermometer”. But
before that let us first read these guide
questions.

“When will the temperature go up?” “Yes ma’am.”

“When will the temperature go down?”
(Watching the video.)
Are you ready to watch the video?
“Yes ma’am.”
(Viewing of the video.)

Did you enjoy the short video?

“When the temperature is in hot objects
Now, let us answer some questions. ma’am.”

When will the temperature go up?

Very good. When an object is hot the “When the temperature is in cold objects
temperature rises. ma’am.”

When will the temperature go down?

Brilliant. When an object is cold the

temperature goes down.
Her temperature might be above 37 degrees
Read the situation below. (Literacy Skills) Celsius.

The teacher noticed that Crizel was not

feeling well during their Math class so she
was sent to their clinic. At the clinic, after her
body temperature was checked, her parents
were asked to come and fetch her so she can
go home. What do you think is her body
temperature that she was asked to go home?

Very good!. Since the normal body

temperature is 37°C (read as 37 degrees
Celsius). Crizel’s temperature must be above
37°C because she was asked to go home.

 Temperature is the hotness and coldness

of an object. It can be expressed in
“degrees Celsius” (°C).

 A thermometer has two important

elements: the temperature sensor and the
scale. The two common liquids inside the
scale that goes up and down as the
temperature changes are alcohol and
mercury.

Scale

 Thermometer was developed over time.

The idea of measuring temperature
started in AD 170 by a Greek scientist
and physician Galen. In 1953, renowned
scientist Galileo Galilei developed the
thermoscope. This device can show the
difference in temperature but it cannot
tell exactly the difference. It is a
thermometer without a scale.

 Several decades later, Italian inventor

Santorio Santorio placed a scale in
Galileo’s invention and it was used to
take human temperature. From then on,
the device was further developed to
become more accurate and user-friendly.
