COMMENTS, RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS

OPTIMUM BINDER CONTENT

Thin briquettes, approximately 15 mm thick are prepared with the crusher dust, cement and SS 60 emulsion at various bitumen contents in
Marshall compaction moulds. After curing for 24 hours at 60 °C, the samples are compacted at 60 °C with a Marshall hammer at a compactive effort
of 150 blows on one side, hereafter, the samples are removed from the moulds and visually inspected.
The observations during the visual assesment, together with the aggregate properties and intended application are taken into
consideration when recommending the optimum emulsion content.

From the tests conducted the optimum emulsion content is 198 l/m³ to 212 l/m3 crusher dust.
The optimum emulsion content equates to a binder content range of 7,0% to 7,5% by mass of crusher dust.

The following blend proportions are thus recommended:

Crusher dust 1 m3 (1698 kg/m3)
Portland cement * 17 - 25 kg
SS60 emulsion 198 - 212 litres
Water 149 - 159 litres (approx.) **

* Ordinary Portland Cement was used during this evaluation. However, alternative types of cement from various sources
may be equally suitable.
** The water demand of a slurry mixture is a function of the prevailing weather conditions on site, road surface temperatures,
crusher dust temperature, fines content of the crusher dust, etc. and may therefore vary.

The desired consistency was achieved with the recommended water content at an ambient temperature of 25°C.
It is recommended that the mixture's water content is adjusted on site (if necessary) in order to obtain the desired consistency.

Note: Although all tests and evaluations are carried out as accurately as possible, this recommendation is based on the test results which are representative of the submitted
sample(s). Opinions and interpretations are those of individuals and are based on the test results contained in this report, combined with previous experiences. This
recommendation should be regarded as a guideline only. The final recommendation should be made by the Engineer in charge of the contract.
