Overview
Summary
GE Multilin releases the F650 Feeder Management Relay & Bay Controller Firmware, Hardware &
Bootware version 5.40.
Highlights of this release include:

• Ethernet controller improvement.

• Frequency functions improvement.

• New Out of Service setting available.

• Analogic Gooses available on Graphic HMI.

• IEC 61850 improvements.

• Non-Volatile latches available.

• New Maintenance data available.

• Release Date: February 26th, 2010

Note:
• Firmware version 5.40 is compatible with Enervista 650 Setup Software version 5.40 and
F650 relays with hardware version 01 or higher and Bootware version 5.40.

• Please refer to Chapter 8 of the Instruction manual for detailed directions on Bootcode and
Firmware upgrade. The F650 Instruction Manual is available at the GE Multilin website:

• For upgrade to new Hardware version 04, please contact Multilin Technical Support Team
for the appropriate hardware package.

• The hardware version of the F650 relay can be verified from the device identification label.
Alternately, it is also available from the EnerVista 650 Setup software version 3.00 or higher
(while communicating with the relay).

Firmware Version 5.40

C Ethernet controller improvement

• Enhancement in the master-slave communication through Ethernet to avoid communication issues


when the switch auxiliary supply is cycled off and on.

E Frequency functions improvement

• The Minimum Voltage settings of the 81U and the 81O have been reduced from 30V to 20V.

• Frequency measurements accuracy improvement to +/- 0.03 Hz of the reading in frequency


measurements from 30Hz to 80Hz.

N New Out of service setting available

• New out of service setting available.

E Analogic Gooses available on Graphic HMI

• Analogical GOOSE values configuration can be configured in the one line diagram screen for Graphic
HMI options in ordering code.

C IEC61850 improvements

• Reports dating issue correction when DST is active and SNTP synchronization is used.
• ConfRevNum correction when remote GOOSE was set to 0.
• File list retrieval process enhancement.
• Protocol initialization improvement

N Non-Volatile latches available

• 16 Latched Virtual Outputs are available for customer configuration.

N New Maintenance data available

• Manufacturing date and serial number are available through modbus protocol.

• Revised for application and use with firmware version 5.40 and Bootware version 5.40.

Upgrade paths

In order to take advantage of the enhancements and new features introduced in the latest F650 release, we
recommend that you upgrade to the new F650 Firmware version 5.40.

Firmware upgrades can be easily performed using 650 set up software. This upgrade can be done either
via EnerVista Launchpad or by direct download from the following site:
http://gemultilin.com/software/F650

If using EnerVista Launchpad, follow these steps:


1. Open EnerVista Launchpad
2. Click “IED Setup”
3. Click “Check Updates”. Note: this will check for updates to all of the IED setup software shown.
4. Select the F650 version 5.40 upgrade for download.

Upgrade path for Hardware version 01 and above

For F650 relays with Hardware version 01 and above, the 5.40 Firmware release can be uploaded to the F650
relay CPU via the Enervista 650 Setup software.

Hardware Upgrade package must be obtained from GE Multilin to upgrade the relays from Hardware 01 to
Hardware 04.

Upgrade path for Hardware Version 00

For F650 relays with Hardware 00, an upgrade package must be obtained from GE Multilin to upgrade the relays

CPU to hardware 01 to 04.
