 What Is It?
Do you like war? What about romance? Well if you do I have the perfect
book for you. The Song Of Achilles by Madeline Miller is an Orange Prize
for fiction. It is a fantasy romance with historical fiction.
What Is It About?
Based on the storys, The Song of Achilles is about a tragic
love story between the small warrior Patroclus and
Achilles. The two of them find each other at young age and
grow up together. When the time comes Achilles has to go
fight in the Battle of Troy, but the prophecy claims if
Hector dies, Achilles will follow. Patroclus goes to war
with them and they have to decide what is right. Will they
spare Hector so they may love forever, or will they fight for
what's right?
Who Are The Characters?
There are two main characters, Patroclus and Achilles.
Patroclus is a small meek prince who has been exiled to
Achilles land. Achilles is a strong bold prince destined
to be a god. The main antagonist of the story is Thetis,
Achilles mother. Thetis is a goddess of justice who had
to marry a mortal. She forbids Achilles and Patroclus
love and tears them apart, but their love is to fierce and
they keep fighting. No matter what, Thetis is
determined to stop them.
 What Is The Setting?
This book takes place during the Trojan War. There are no specific dates on when the
Trojan War happened but it was definitely in BCE. The soldiers fight in Europe during the
war. It was fought in Turkey but they knew it as the City of Troy.
Themes In The Novel
When reading the book I thought a theme was
sacrifice in love. The author was showing us
how selfless Patroclus was towards Achilles. He
put on Achilles armor and killed people knowing
he hates it just to keep Achilles alive. Thetis was
also selfless at the end of the book toward her
son. (Cannot say mush else without spoiling).
Achilles dressed up as women in disguise so he
did not have to go to war. Love can make us do
crazy selfless things.

want Chris Hemsworth as Achilles, Gavin
Casalegno as Patroclus, and Angelina Jolie
as Thetis.
