LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

GRADE: 10 QUARTER: 4 WEEK: 1 DAY: 1

PROCEDURE: A. Preparation
Routinary Activities:
 Prayer, Checking of Attendance, Reminders
B. Motivation
The teacher divides the students into 8 groups and lets them perform: “PICK A CARD”
Steps to follow:
1. This activity should be done in not more than 5 minutes.
2. Each group should prepare a sheet of paper.
3. Each member picks a random card from the deck provided for each group and notes the
numbers picked by each member on the paper. This accounts for their first set of numbers.
4. Shuffle the deck. Then let each member pulls a random card again to note it down. The
process is continued 5 times.
5. After five rounds, find the middle card picked in each round.
6. Then let a representative from each group show their answers on the board.
7. The group/s that finishes the activity before the allotted time will be given additional points.
8. The teacher then evaluates the answers and provides feedback to improve in later activities.

C. Presentation
A recall of the concept of the median is one of the concepts needed in the study of this module.
a+b
The midpoint between two numbers, a and b, on the real number line is .

Example 1:

In the figure above:

 F is the midpoint of E and G.
 Q1 is the midpoint of E and F.
 Q2 is the midpoint of F and G.

 Q1 is the midpoint of E and F.

 F represents the median. The median divides the distribution into two equal parts.

D.Discussion/Abstraction
 How will you define median?
 How are the coordinates of the midpoint obtained?
 How is the median determined?

E. Exercises
Find the coordinates of the midpoint Q2 of FG in terms of a and b.

 Q2 is the midpoint of F and G.

F. Generalization
 The median divides the distribution into two equal parts. It is a point in the distribution
where one-half of the distribution lies below it and one-half above it.
a+b
 The midpoint between two numbers, a and b, on the real number line is .
2
 The median is the middle position.
G. Application
Mr. Boja’s friend asks him which salary he prefers: the average salary or the median salary.
He said that different workplaces have their own set of rules and regulations. Some consider
the average salary as a starting point, while others use the median salary as a guideline. The
median salary helps employees estimate the midpoint of their earnings over their careers. It
is also known as the 50% rule, since half of the employees earn more than the median wage
while the other half earn less. It gives a sense of healthy competition and allows an employee
to grow. Which salary did Mr. Boja prefer? If you were his friend, which salary would you
choose? Why?
H. Evaluation
x+ y
The midpoint between two numbers x and y on the real number line is .
2

1. AC represents a distribution. What does point B represent in the distribution?

2. Find the coordinates of the midpoint ( Q1 ) of AB in terms of x and y.

3. Find the coordinates of the midpoint (Q2) of BC .

I. Agreement/Assignment
Look for the meaning of the following words:
1. Deciles 2. Percentiles 3. Quartiles
