Biometric Applications for use with Mobile Devices.

Biometric applications entail recognizing a person based on their physical attribute.

Biometric application on mobile devices is used in devices such as smartphones and tablets, and

they make use of sensors and algorithms, and embedded software. The main goal of this

development is assuring the owner of the device more security since he is the only one who can

authenticate using their identity (Das et al. 2018).

This development is a deviation from the past, where passwords and PINs were the most

common security feature, which could be easily manipulated or hacked. This has been of great

help, especially regarding mobile banking and other vital commercial transactions that happen

through mobile devices (Das et al. 2018).

Some of the most common physical characteristics employed by biometric authentication

include.

 Fingerprint recognition

This is one of the most common physical features discontinuous, which means every person has

a different and unique print. Special readers are used to capturing the patterns.

 Facial recognition

Facial images are used in this concept, and this is based on the fact that on the human face, there

are distinctive features that can easily authenticate the user.

 Iris scanning

This feature requires an infrared imager to make sure that it captures a high-resolution image of

the iris. This is believed to be one of the most unique and secure biometrics.

Other biometrics used is voiceprint recognition, signature recognition, keystroke

dynamics. Biometrics application on mobile devices has been a major advancement in the

evolution of mobile devices. It is more effective, secure, and very efficient compared to the

previous identification methods.
