1. Definition of Job Description

Job Descriptions serve to summarize and document the most important features of a job. Such descriptions provide Oman Cables Industry (OCI) with the ability to
communicate a job’s requirement to incumbents in a concise and effective manner.
Job Descriptions can aid employers in communicating the purpose, desired output and the set of skills & knowledge required to successfully perform required tasks. When
used effectively, Job Descriptions (JD’s) can enhance productivity and reduce turnover.

2. Uses of Job Description

Job Descriptions are used for the following purposes but not limited to specific areas:

 To provide an objective description of the duties and responsibilities of the position in terms of worth to the group.
 To clarify expectations from the position.
 To attract people based on clear job expectations and establish evaluation criteria to determine the most qualified candidates.
 To enable Job Evaluation Grading and Salary structure development in a logical and fair manner.
 To establish objectives and set performance standards and key performance indicators for all employees in the Performance Management process.
 To act as a reference for training and development activities.

3. Intended Audience

The Job Descriptions Manual aims to assist the employees of OCI in implementing their tasks and responsibilities in a professional and continuous way.

The Human Resources Department at OCI should ensure that all employees in the various departments understand the operational implications of the Job Descriptions of
OCI. All employees should be fully briefed with the details of the manual; Department Heads/Managers should take appropriate action to ensure they are implemented
within their own departments.

4. Deviation from Job Description

Each employee is responsible for ensuring full compliance with their appropriate documented Job Description. Any deviations from the Job Descriptions contained in this
manual must be recommended and approved by the Human Resources Department.

5. Manual Clarifications

All queries related to the interpretation of the Job Descriptions in this manual should be addressed to the Human Resources Department.

6. Enhancing the Manual

This Job Descriptions Manual is an evolving and dynamic document with additional changes being made as & when necessary. As OCI evolves, it is anticipated that existing
job descriptions may require amendments and new job descriptions need to be introduced, mainly in the following circumstances but not limited to:

 Creation of new jobs / positions.


 Major changes in the job (such as adding new tasks and activities to the job or removing or redistributing some responsibilities & tasks).
 Organization restructuring within business units or departments.
 Changes in job characteristics due to technological change (such as introduction of new equipment, methodologies or procedures to the work place).

7. Usage of the Manual

The Manual contains information pertaining to Job Descriptions allocated for specific roles. Accordingly, incumbents within positions enclosed herein must be provided with
a copy of the relevant Job Description. Human Resource department must maintain a copy of the general sign off sheet in each incumbent’s personal file for future reference.
Any changes to a Job Description as indicated in the section “Enhancing the Manual” must also correspond to the issuance of another Job Description to the incumbent and
a new General Sign off Sheet must be issued and documented.
