she still felt their absence during significant junctures in her life.
STORY OF

Ellen relied on her friends for support and shared her secrets with them.
THE CASE She excelled in school but felt pressure to care for her asthmatic brother.
Her parents attended her high school graduation, but her brother's
health issues caused financial strain.

Ellen enrolled in a prestigious university on a full scholarship but had to

take a part-time job to support herself. Overwhelmed, she decided to
drop out without informing her parents and pretended to continue her
studies.
BEHAVIOR OF MAIN
CHARACTER
As we read through the case study of Ellen, we can exhibit that her behavior
are being responsible and tenacious.

Ellen's decision to drop out of university without informing her parents and
pretend to continue her studies reflects the tension between societal
expectations and personal fulfillment.

It touches upon the philosophical concept of authenticity, where individuals

strive to align their actions and choices with their true selves. In this case,
Ellen's choice to prioritize her financial stability and well-being, even if it goes
against societal norms, demonstrates her pursuit of personal authenticity and
the recognition of her own needs and limitations.

She occasionally criticized her parents, but she also felt bad about it because
she appreciated everything they were doing for her.

EVALUATION OF ACTIONS
Ellen decides to stop schooling to work full time as a food server

From a psychological perspective, Ellen's life has been shaped by challenging circumstances that have affected her relationship with
her parents. She rarely felt their love and attention, and her sickly brother often became the focus when her mom returned home.
Despite her struggles in college, Ellen still recognized that her parents did their best to support her.

When financial difficulties forced her to stop attending college, Ellen chose not to burden her parents and instead started working to
ease their worries. This situation elicited empathy from the group, as we recognized her intelligence and potential that had been
hindered by life's circumstances. However, it's important to remember that life doesn't end when faced with difficulties.

From an anthropological perspective, we can examine Ellen's experiences in the context of cultural and familial norms in a Filipino
context. The concept of kinship and the role of parents in Filipino culture shed light on the actions of Ellen.

From an oriental perspective, we can draw insights from the Filipino mindset and culture. Ellen's journey is not unique as this happens
often in the Philippines. The issues that came to be due to the lack of presence Ellen's parents have on her life because they work
overseas and her heavy responsibilities as an older sister are something many Filipinos experience.
