TEST I

1.) What is mathematics?

- Mathematics gives an effective way of creating mental discipline and motivate logical
reasoning and mental rigor. In addition, mathematical knowledge plays essential role in
understanding the contents of other school subjects such as science, social studies, and
even music and art. Math is more than a subject we learn in school. Math is every breath we
take and every second of the day. From the moment we wake up in the morning, math is
the core of everything we do.

2.) Where is Mathematics?

- I believe math is everywhere around us. Math gives life to life itself. Possibly anything could
be and should be able to be explained by math. Math is just everywhere like the air you
can't see it, you have to feel it in your minds. Math is not just solving equations and doing
calculus it's something greater, something that's holds together the entire universe.

3.) What role does Mathematics play in your world?

- Numbers help us understand the world, and Math helps us understand numbers. The real-
life applications of Mathematics are endless. We are surrounded by numbers, equations and
algorithms – especially in this age of data science, with huge data sets that can only be
understood through statistical models and analysis. Maths gives us the ability to view the
world in a way nothing else can! Math is also helpful with your finance. With the help of
math, you can easily make your financial budget.

TEST II

(I) Many patterns and occurrences exists in nature. Mathematics helps make sense of the
patterns.
- Yes, in a sense. Mathematics cannot explain WHY these patterns occur. But it helps us to
describe these patterns. Math, by its nature, is more of an applied science in that it was
created to provide a universal language for describing phenomena. For example, calculus
was developed as a way to describe complex phenomena in physics. I consider math and
science to be analogous to linguistics and literature.

(ii) Mathematics is a tool to quantify, organize, and control our world, predict phenomena, and
make life easier for us.

- Mathematics can be used to explain many of the phenomena which we observe in the world
around us. After all, mathematics forms the basis of many other natural sciences. From the
laws of physics to creating models in biology, mathematics enables us to describe various
processes in a systematic and rational manner. Mathematics also provides you with logic
training. It helps you to quickly understand the relationship between two concepts. As you
solve a problem, you would need to cover all possible grounds to ensure that your
arguments and proofs are watertight. Mathematics also equips you with the tools to draw
logical and coherent conclusions in many real-world situations.
