I.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Statistics show that access to higher education is further complicated for these

with family obligations outside of work and school, which often tighten financial and time

constraints.

Currently, around 216,000 students work while studying. And the students of

Trece Martires City National High School are included there. The jobs that they have may

sustain their needs in schooling for now but according to CHED only half of the enormous

number of working students graduate in the Philippines.

However, a lot of teenagers risk their all even if what they all got is education. But

being a working student helps them mature faster compared to others, it may be seen as

forcing them to grow up by the society, still they are just the reality on how they think it

should be faced. Although they are only children it’s not wrong to have the desire to

survive. They act like adults, and they are more responsible in their life. They value

education because they know that nobody can take it away from them.

Based on Moris Triventis study, there are positive and negative effects of working

while studying can bring to students. Some of the positive effects are increased

independence, ability to budget, managing a schedule, and gaining soft skills, such as

communication and problem-solving skills. Some of the negative effects are higher risk of

dropping out, delayed graduation rates, and negative effects on academic performance.

Regardless of the positive and negative consequences working might bring.

Juggling school with a job can be a real challenge. It takes a strong person-physical,

mental, and spiritually. It takes good balance, as well of one’s attention.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

1. This study aims to document the lived experiences of working students.

2. This study aims to discuss issues and concerns of working students.

3. This study aims to measure the difficulties of being a working student.

4. This study aims to know the challenges the respondents face.

5. Give knowledge for the existence of working students.

III. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The term “working student” does not bring elicit sympathetic anymore, it may be

because the number of these extraordinary hard-pressed young people have grown so

much that they have already become common place or in a poor country like the

Philippines working students have come to be expected otherwise young people would

only ‘qualifications’ for one to be a working student. One also needs to be doggedly

determined and of solid personal qualities to be able to face up to the challenge.

STUDENTS - specific students of the Trece Martires City National High School they are

working students that necessarily lives two lives all at the time as a worker and as a

student’s needs the income defray the expenses entailed in going to school it’s the

important for the students to do well, too in order to justify the hard earned money spent

in his or her studies it is never self-effacing engagement but self-elating instead for again

they are special people who can carry two major life undertakings simultaneously.
TEACHERS - teachers of the Trece Martires City National High School, these wise adults

are very significant to a working student. Life not only helps students from their studies to

their extracurricular activities, but they also guide the students from experiences

regarding of how they handle having a job and having a life.

SOCIETY - the phrase “I want to live” is more desperate than “I want to die”. It may seem

pitiful for others to see a young person working instead of living his or her or life to an

extent, but there is nothing wrong in finding ways to live. Everyone has their own

meaning of living some thinks that living is enjoying to its limit, not thinking of what it may

cause them and what it will cost them some think living diligently, working hard and smart

is the way to live. Nevertheless, both are trying to contribute to society, both are just

trying to survive. The platform works offer to students challenges them to be a better

person paving a brighter future ahead for the society.

IV. METHODOLOGY

A. Research Design

The kind of research is quantitative.

Based on our research and surveys of people, we determined that it was

quantitative. Since it was based on the population of the people who responded to our

surveys or the number of people we surveyed, and because it involved gathering and

evaluating numerical data. It can be used to identify trends and averages, formulate

hypotheses, examine causality extrapolate findings to larger population.

Quantitative research involves data, reasoning, and an impartial viewpoint. The

focus of quantitative research is on precise, convergent thinking as opposed to divergent

reasoning, which is the creation of several ideas concerning a research subject in an

unplanned, unstructured way.

B. Participants

There are 200 pupils at Trece Martires City National High School, and we polled

100 of them.

C. Data Gathering

D.STATISTICAL TREATMENT

In this study, the researcher used both Qualitative and Quantitative for this

research to answer the questions and includes the use of questionnaires and

investigated to identify the content of the research study.

We’ll identify the number of students who are working and survey the about how it

affects them as a student. Out of 100 students in the school of TMCNHS, we selected

numerous employed students. In the case of our survey, the population is 100 students,

and the samples are random because each of them had an equal chance of being

surveyed.
