Description:
The TM-57 is a large, metal-bodied, AV blast mine that is a development of the Russian TM-46. It can be laid manually or mechanically. The TM-57 can be fitted with
either a pressure fuze (MVZ-57) or a tilt-rod fuze (MVSh-57). In most instances the fitting of a tilt rod fuze would be expected to give the mine a full-width attack
capability but the mast of the MVSh-57 is too short to give this capability. The MVSh-57 is more likely to be fitted to give the mine better resistance of mine clearance
methods incorporating blast over pressure. When the mine is fitted with the MVZ-57 fuze, the withdrawal of the safety clip initiates a clockwork arming delay of 25-30
seconds. Once the fuze is armed, sufficient weight on the pressure plate causes the pressure plate to collapse and pass that force on the top of the fuze. The fuze
contains a cocked striker retained by striker retaining balls. When the MVSh-57, tilt rod, fuze is used, a movement of (25°-30°) starts a camming action that raises a
collar surrounding the cocked striker and releases the striker retaining balls. The TM-57 is fitted with an auxiliary fuze well in the side of the mine body. A training
version of this mine (the TM-60) produces smoke when actuated.
Method of Operation:
Pressure or tiltrod
Markings:
The mine and the MVZ-57 fuze are green. Designation and manufacturing data are embossed on the bottom and stenciled in black on the top of the mine. Designation
and manufacturing data are stenciled in black on the top of the MVZ-57 fuze. Painting and markings of the MVSh-57 fuze are unknown.
Specifications
Minimum Metal: No
The mine and the MVZ-57 fuze are steel. The steel 1.1D
MVSh-57 fuze is thought to be steel.
