1 SAFETY NOTES
Always consider the following points:

The clamping unit QCS is only designed for static operation - no rotation allowed!

Use only technically perfect tools!

Coolant

Guidelines and technical specifications for the coolant use in the machine:
Coolant use must conform to the current regulations of the legislation and the
professional association.
Our products are to the greatest possible extent protected by the materials used or by
means of a passivated surface against corrosion and therefore suited for use with water.
The rate of corrosion is strongly dependent on the contents of the media
(e.g. chlorine is very much increasing the rate of corrosion), as well as the environment
in which the products are being operated (e.g. the difference in electrical potential
between rotor and stator in spindles).
Suitable protective measures such as the utilization of corrosion inhibitors will extend
the service life in every way.
Furthermore, you must only use coolants which conform with the specs listed on the
table below.

2 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

2.1 FEATURES
Clamp- and release procedure with operation angle of only 140°
low actuating torque to realize high clamping force
with big hex wrench for solid operation
designed for holding HSK-T 40 - holder; also suitable for other HSK holder
coolant

Clean inside contour


grease O-rings and mount it
grease the sliding surface of the tensioning bolt and the friction surface of the spiral bolt with
KLÜBER-Paste ME 31-52
slide in the tensioning bolt (with complete clamping device);
look at the correct position of the hole;
the marking of the tensioning bolt look towards the operation side of the spiral bolt

slide in the bushing;


look at the correct position of the chamfer
slide in the spiral bolt;
the head must be at the same side as the marking of the tensioning bolt;
the marking at the spiral bolt must be in unclamped position (see pic. Chapt.. 4.1);
afterward check the clearance of the spiral bolt: clamping operation equals clockwise rotation
mount the rollpins;
slot in oposite to the spiral bolt
as needed: connect coolant

Recommendation: make a orientation marking


(clamped - unclamped; 140°; likewise pic. in capt. 4.1)

Check
Test pull force
we recommend: use Power-Check
check angle UNCLAMPED / CLAMPED,
appr. 140° (see pic. Capt. 4.1)
if necessary release lock screw and change the position of the pulling head until the angel of 140
° is attained with the corresponding pull force;
at last tighten the lock screw
tightening torque:
32: 7,5 Nm
40: 11,5 Nm
50: 25 Nm
63: 60 Nm

4 OPERATION
The clamping unit QCS is only designed for static operation - no rotation allowed!
If rotation is desired, a technical clarification with OTT-JAKOB is necessary.

Use only technically perfect tools!

Clamp:
precondition: area of contact clean and intact
Turn spiral bolt in unclamped position
position the HSK-T holder
turn the spiral bolt with a torque wrench in position clamped; M A see tab.

Unclamp:
Hold the HSK-T holder
turn the spiral bolt in position unclamped
remove the HSK-T holder

5 MAINTENANCE

5.1 PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE


To guarantee the function of the clamping unit the following preventive maitenance schedule must
be adhered to.

regular check; is it damaged or polluted (visual check)


check the counter of the lock screw
check the sealing ring; if necessary replace it → 5.1.1 // 11
Test Pull-in-force (we recommend:use POWER-CHECK)
If the pull-in-force is smaller than 70% of the nominal value, following procedures have to be
performed in the following sequence:
regrease * and test pull force again
* to this: remove the upper rollpin, remove the spiral bolt and grease the friction surface with
KLÜBER-Paste ME 31-52
exchange clamping unit completely → Fehler: Verweis nicht gefunden

5.1.1 Replace sealing ring

Remove damaged sealing ring


place the new sealing ring in the groove
push the sealing ring based from the starting-point around the hole length in the groove
check the correct position

5.2 TROUBLE SHOOTING

trouble reason

tool is not pulled in correctly: lock screw got loose

wrong or faulty holder-inside-contour

wrong or faulty tool-inside-contour

wear of clamping unit

tool feed not correct

tool is not released: accumulated rust on the centering

tool is pulled out during work cycle: tensioning bolt broken

spiral bolt broken

pull force not sufficient

Loss of pull force: lack of lubrication on clamping set
