Reflective Practice for Learning Goals

As nursing students in Canada, we are living different challenges in our practices.

This is why it led me to ponder on questioning how my experience this year impacted my

practice. Also, a thing that made me proud of myself was the changes that I did just to enjoy

the level of professionalism that I have today because I had to do my work differently from

what I used to. Hence, there are still areas that I have to improve, my nursing knowledge,

skill, and judgment that I need to develop professionally.

During the peak of the COVID pandemic, it had been my biggest issue because I was

working in the ER with very limited resources available. We were all completely aware of

how drastic it all was, but I managed to locate the silver lining for me, I did a really good job,

In any ways that I can, I took on additional tasks as I think that these are the reasons why a

nurse succeeds in the industry and as a student in totality. The main challenge for me was I

had to leave my family in the Philippines for a better life in a global epidemic in a place

where I didn't know anyone. Being a student and a nurse helped me with my work. Every

classroom learning is implemented at the hospital; thus, I consider myself a gradual learner in

nursing. While writing this essay, I thought about CPD, "Continuing professional

development (CPD) is central to nurses’ lifelong learning and constitutes a vital aspect for

keeping nurses’ knowledge and skills up-to-date." (Mlambo et al., 2021) This type of change

became so important because it helped me to have updated knowledge and develop my skills.

It is the responsibility of the nurse to evaluate each circumstance and decide whether the

performance of a certain procedure contributes to the provision of safe client care and

whether or not it is suitable for a nurse to undertake the actions (College of Nurses of

Ontario, n.d.). Just like everybody else, I managed to adapt to this change because I was open

to learning new horizons. My experiences in the pandemic, it had helped me understand how

society needs people like us to suffice their health needs. Because of this, I have been

thinking about the concepts that we covered in the course materials. Competence is

something that nurses uphold and work to improve on constantly. By taking part in the

Quality Assurance Program offered by CNO, they are encouraged to conduct annual self-

evaluations of their work and formulate learning objectives. To inform their practice, nurses

draw from reliable sources of information such as research (College of Nurses of Ontario,

n.d.). The reason why nurses succeed is that they find the best formula for having the right

communication between colleagues and patients. That is what I am going to do. The area that

I would prioritize is that by promoting that the clients are our pure priority in the workplace.

As a nurse, I have seen how the world shifted during the pandemic. It is my task to

serve the people for the betterment of their health. These experiences I had, and my

adaptability to changes had helped me all throughout. Last but not the least, I have ensured

my knowledge, skills, and judgments were all in the right manner and are continued in

different workplace scenarios.
