DESCRIPTION

AVAPOLYMER 5050 is a blend of organic polymers. AVAPOLYMER 5050 is based on polyalcohol and cellulose
derivatives which stabilize hydratable and dispersible shale, reducing filtrate invasion into the formation.

APPLICATION

AVAPOLYMER 5050 acts as shale inhibitor and fluid loss reducer in potassium-based drilling fluids. AVAPOLYMER
5050 is commonly used in weighted or high-solids potassium muds when a minimal increase in viscosity and a high
degree of shale inhibition is required.

AVAPOLYMER 5050 reacts with shale, attaching itself to positively-charged edges of clay platelets and binding particles
together. AVAPOLYMER 5050 stabilizes the wellbore, inhibits dispersion of cuttings, reduces filtrate invasion into the
formation and leads to efficient and effective solids removal.

AVAPOLYMER 5050 encapsulates the shale surface and prevents water interaction, thereby preserving the original
formation characteristics.

TREATMENT

AVAPOLYMER 5050 can be used in conjunction with common water-based mud products and may be used to
complement other clay inhibitors or used as the primary inhibitor. Recommended levels for AVAPOLYMER 5050
treatment is 5 – 10 kg/m3. Potassium ions may be used in conjunction with AVAPOLYMER 5050, as enhanced
performance is typically observed in presence of potassium ions.

AVAPOLYMER 5050 is readily dispersible in water and it should be added slowly at the rate of about 20 minutes per
bag to avoid “fish-eye” formation.
