Preamble

The 3rd Global Organic Expo 2022 (GOE) was successfully held between 26 – 28 May 2022 at the Indian Agriculture Research
Institute, Pusa in New Delhi, INDIA. As one of the India’s top two exhibitions of organic farming, natural farming, organic products,
organic fertilizers with the opt theme of “PROFITABILITY FOR HUMANITY” is an all-Inclusive showcase of development outcomes of
India’s undertaking of Organic produce, Certification, Packaging, Marketing, Logistic and Land Management. The event was inaugu-
rated by Mr. Pawan Chamling, an Indian politician and former Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim under whose leadership Sikkim
became India's first 100% organic state. The 3 days conference was dedicated to Bharat Ratna, Rashtra Rishi, Shraddha Nanaji
Deshmukh, who dedicated his entire life for the betterment of rural India by saving the Soil, Air, Water, Living Organisms and Nature
of our Mother Earth.

The 4th edition of the Global Organic Expo (GOE) is coming to cover all aspects of agriculture except the use of chemical fertilizers
and pesticides. Apart from the organic foods and inputs GOE 2023 is coming with four concurrent shows i.e., Global Natural Farming
& Machinery Expo (GNFME 2023), Millets Expo, Agro Science & Technology Expo and Conference (ASTEC) and Global integrated
Horticulture Expo & Conference (GIHEC).

Global Organic Food Market

The organic food market consists of sales of organic food and

beverages and related services. The production of organic food
involves practises that promote ecological balance and aim to
conserve biodiversity. These food products do not use any food
additives or industrial solvents.

The global organic food market grew from $259.06 billion in

2022 to $294.54 billion in 2023 at a compound annual growth
rate (CAGR) of 13.7%. The Russia-Ukraine war disrupted the
chances of global economic recovery from the COVID-19
pandemic, at least in the short term. The war between these two
countries has led to economic sanctions on multiple countries, a
surge in commodity prices, and supply chain disruptions, caus-
ing inflation across goods and services and affecting many
markets across the globe.
The organic food market is expected to grow from $512.01 billion in 2027 at a CAGR of 14.8%.

Increasing health concerns due to growing number of chemical poisoning cases globally is acting as a driver in the organic food
market. Consumers are becoming more health-conscious owing to the harmful effects caused by the presence of chemical pesticides
in food products. The toxicity of chemical pesticides in food products can cause cancer, hormone disruption, and birth defects.
According to a UN report, around 200,000 people die every year due to the toxic effects of pesticides on food products. This is causing
consumers to shift their focus towards organic food products.

India Organic Food Market

The India organic food market stood at a value of USD 1238
million in 2022 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of about 22%
in the forecast period of 2022 and 2028 to reach a value of
about USD 4082 million by 2028.

The India organic food market is experiencing a robust growth

with the rising awareness about the products. The growing level
of health consciousness in the country is a key factor driving
the demand for organic food. The nutritional content and quali-
ty of the food they eat have begun to be paid attention to by
Indian consumers leading to the growing demand for organic
food. In addition, the consumer spending on health and
wellness products has increased dramatically due to factors
including strong economic growth, urbanisation, and rising
income levels. In addition, the strong government funding is catalysing the market for organic food in India.

The Government of India encourages organic farming through financial assistance to farmers who are implementing organic farming
under various government schemes, such as the Mission for Integrated Horticulture Development (MIDH), National Food Security
Mission (NFSM), NMSA, and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).

ABOUT EVENT
Natural Farming is a chemical-free alias
traditional farming method. It is considered as

which integrates crops, trees and livestock with

functional biodiversity.
In India, Natural farming is promoted as Bharatiya
Prakritik Krishi Paddhati Programme (BPKP) under centrally sponsored scheme-
Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY). BPKP is aimed at promoting traditional
indigenous practices which reduces externally purchased inputs. It is largely based on
on-farm biomass recycling with major stress on biomass mulching, use of on-farm cow
dung-urine formulations; periodic soil aeration and exclusion of all synthetic chemical
inputs. According to HLPE Report, natural farming will reduce dependency on purchased
inputs and will help to ease smallholder farmers from credits burden.
The BPKP programme has been adopted in State of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka,
Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. Several studies have reported the
effectiveness of natural farming- BPKP in terms of increase in production, sustainability,
saving of water use, improvement in soil health and farmland ecosystem. It is considered
as a costeffective farming practices with scope for raising employment and rural
development.
NITI Aayog along with Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers welfare had convened several
high level discussions with global experts on Natural farming practices. It is roughly
estimated that around 2.5 million farmers in India are already practicing regenerative
agriculture. In the next 5 years, it is expected to reach 20 lakh hectares- in any form of
organic farming, including natural farming, of which 12 lakh hectares are under BPKP.

MACHINERY
Farm machinery management has become increasingly important in
modern farming operations since it directly affects management’s ability

activities can be greatly improved by mechanizing. Modern farming

creates higher income if traditional farming produces nutritious crops.
Furthermore, we see tremendous growth and innovation in farming

its functionality wasn’t practical until the 1820s. A new generation of

agriculture machines emerged after that era. Consequently, agricultural
machines are widely available to assist us in achieving cost-effective
production.

Agricultural mechanization helps in increasing production, productivity

bringing precision in metering and placement of inputs, reducing available

chemical, fertilizer, irrigation, water etc.), reducing unit cost of produce,

products from qualitative and quantitative damages; enables value addition and establishment of agro processing enterprises
for additional income and employment generation from farm produce. It is one of the important inputs to usher in all round
development in the rural India.

• Some varieties of pearl millet survive at temperatures up to 46°C.
• Require minimal inputs for growth.
• Being hardy crops, they can withstand extreme temperatures,

sciences etc.

In this area research and development work is done on the following:-

• Production techniques (eg, irrigation management, recommended nitrogen inputs)
• Improving agricultural production in terms of quality and quantity (such as selection of drought-tolerant crops and
livestock, development of new pesticides, agriculture-sensing technologies, simulation models of crop growth, in-vitro
cell culture techniques)
• Transformation of primary products into end-consumer products (such as the production, preservation, and packaging
of dairy products)
• Prevention and amelioration of adverse environmental impacts (such as soil degradation, waste management, bio-
remediation)
• Theoretical Production Ecology ,
• Traditional agricultural systems involving crop production modelling - sometimes called ‘subsistence agriculture’ - feed
the world’s poorest. These traditional practices are interesting because they often maintain a greater level of integration
with natural ecosystems than industrial agriculture, which is more sustainable than some modern agricultural systems.

271.25 Million by the year 2030. The market is expected to register a growth rate of 4.19% over the projected period. In 2021,
India’s greenhouse horticulture production was 27.71 million tonnes.
