Department of Imaging Physics
TU Delft
Course Name: Systems & Signals
Course Code: TN2545
Date: December 7, 2020
Time: 16:00-17:30
Lecturers: Frans Vos, Eric Verschuur
It is important that you start with an honesty statement: please begin with a line on your
first sheet stating “I hereby declare that I have made this assignment myself without the aid
of others” and sign it. Otherwise, we cannot take your exam into account!
Determine whether the next statements are correct “Yes” or “No”, and explain yourself. The
following grading will be applied:
- correct answer with good explanation: 2 points
- correct answer with erroneous reasoning: 1 point
- correct answer without reasoning: 0 points
- wrong or no answer: 0 points.
a) The Fourier transform of a sum of sinus functions (with phase=0) yields a purely
imaginary signal. The inverse Fourier transform of a purely imaginary signal is a sum of
sinus functions (with phase = 0).
b) The magnitude of the Fourier transform of any real signal is even.
c) Two different signals can have the same, stable Fourier Transform.
d) The impulse responses h(t) and h(t – t0) of two LTI systems have the same energy.
e) If the input of an LTI system is x(t) = Acos(ω t) + Aj sin(ω t) then the output must be
x(t) = Bcos(ω t) + Bj sin(ω t) , with A,B complex.
f) The DC component of an odd signal is zero.
g) The Fourier transform of a signal multiplied with an impuls train is periodic.
h) The Fast Fourier Transform of a signal with length 1024 is 32 times faster than the
(standard) Discrete Time Fourier Transform.

c) Determine the CT Fourier Transform of x t = (u(t − 2) − u(t − 3))e3t
