Piezoelectric Generation Capacity of Melded Copper Sheets and Potassium Sodium

Tartrate Salt Crystals: An Alternative Economical Source of Electricity

Abstract

This study was conducted to assess the piezoelectric generation capacity of melded copper

sheets and the potassium sodium tartrate crystals as an alternative economical source of

energy. The procedure started with heating the baking soda and boiling of cream of tartar.

The two substances were mixed and filtered to remove excess dirt. Potassium sodium tartrate

was air dried to become a crystal. An improvised piezoelectric electric transducer was made

by placing the potassium sodium tartrate salt crystal in between the two copper plates. This

was attached to a bicycle and LED light. Pressure and weight were applied to test the

generation of electricity. Statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA was used. Based on the

result, there is a significant difference in current generated from improvised piezoelectric

transducer with varying thickness of copper plate since the F value of 821 5952 is greater
than F crit value of 4.006181. There is also a significant difference in current generated from

the improvised transducer with different physical structure of salt crystal since F value of

269.4545 is greater than F cri value of 5.143253. There is also a significant difference in

current generated from the improvised transducer with varying amounts of potassium sodium

tartrate salt crystal since the F vaue of 32.83333 is greater than the F crit value of 4.006181. It

was therefore concluded that the thicker the copper plate, the greater the mass of potassium

sodium tartrate crystal and its physical structure, the greater the electric current generated.

Piezoelectric transducer can be indeed a source of electricity.
