Methods to Improve RoR Games

RoR has a lot of moving parts, so it's not surprising that some things often get
overlooked in face to face games. The following are some suggestions to help run
sessions efficiently and with fewer mistakes.

* It's easy to run out of Corrupt markers in the Late Republic due to corrupt
Governors, so provide some extra red counters for this purpose. Also an extra d6,
for those 2d6 vs 2d6 dice offs.

* Have specific players be in charge of handing out Veteran Allegiance markers,

Knights, Major Office markers, and Prior Consul markers. Money, positive and
negative numbers, and Major/Corrupt markers should all be in pools (i.e. the Bank).
Assign specific players to be in charge of Event Cards (and Drought / Manpower
Shortage / No Recruitment markers), the Unrest level, State Treasury markers, and
Land Bill markers.

* At the beginning of the game, appoint 2 players to keep track the number of
senators in Rome at all times during each Senate Phase so it won't be missed if
that number is ever below 8.

* Remember that all drawn mortality chits stay out of the cup while drawing, except
"Draw 2" chits. "Draw 2" chits immediately go back in the cup and can be drawn
again.

* Pass the dice to the player to your left to signal you're done with your
Initiative.

* Make the last responsibility of the Presiding Magistrate to be making sure the
outgoing Consuls and Dictator get (or already have) Prior Consul markers when new
Consuls are elected, and that the Dictator and Master of Horse give up their purple
office markers at that point if they still have them.

* Make the last responsibility of each Censor to be making sure all Major and
Corrupt markers on senators in Rome are removed before returning control to the
Presiding Magistrate.

* Follow a checklist of what to do after each battle, so for example you don't
forget to assign a Veteran Legion, subtract popularity for Legion losses, or create
a province.

* When a Commander becomes a Proconsul, that player MUST immediately take a Prior
Consul marker (unless the senator already has one).

* To choose Legion losses from a force that includes Veterans, lay out the Veterans
from left to right and note how many total Veteran + non-Veteran Legions are in the
group. Use the following app, entering "1", the total number of Legions, and the
number of losses to take. A result of "1" corresponds to the left most Veteran, "2"
to the next one to the right, and so on. Results above the number of Veterans are
taken from any of the non-Veteran Legions.

* Even though it's not listed on the Faction Treasury box cover, money from the
Faction Treasury may be spent to ransom Captives.
