Navajo Sand Painting

More than 500 years ago, the ancestors of the Navajo

people left the cold northern region that is now part of
western Canada and Alaska and migrated south to
what is now the southwestern part of the United
States. Animals and plants had to adapt to the harsh
landscape in order to survive.

When the Navajo arrived, they had to adapt to the
harsh nature and climate, and also developed a natural
