Recent CPPAs & CDIs

About XXX audits in Q2 ensure clean stocks at HP Partners

Carrying out over XXX Channel Partner Protection Audits (CPPAs) in Europe, the Middle East and Africa,
HP’s ACF auditors went above and beyond to help protect the HP sales channel.

Most partners (approx. XX%) passed the surprise checks in their warehouses without any issues;
however, some CPPAs were failed because our auditors were refused access or identified counterfeit
and/or non-compliant cartridges.

HP also protected various customers that had received suspicious printing supplies deliveries, with
dedicated Customer Delivery Inspections (CDIs).

Our experts have uncovered counterfeit cartridges in about X out of 10 recent inspections on average.

These checks, which can be done either on-site or via the Web as Remote CDIs, thus directly contribute
to protecting enterprise and public-sector users from illicit printing supplies – and can also open up new
sales opportunities for HP Partners.

ACF makes headlines in Africa

Recently, HP’s fight against counterfeiting was covered in two noteworthy news reports in Africa.

Have a look for yourself:

The African tech news-outlet TechCentral highlights the high performance of original ink and toner
cartridges – and the risks of counterfeit supplies.

In addition, the report recaps some helpful tips on how to avoid counterfeits.

As part of their newsletter, the Kenyan Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) reports about a court ruling
sentencing a person engaged in trading with counterfeit printing supplies to a suspended prison
sentence.

HP acts against ‘lookalike’ products

Particularly in online trade, fraudsters might use product photos that show a packaging which looks quite
like HP’s packaging – but might for example have a slightly different artwork; or you might notice that the
product does not actually carry the HP trademark on the box.

For customers looking to buy original HP toner and ink cartridges, this can be confusing.

To protect online markets, HP has been stepping up its actions against such trade dress infringements.

Working closely with online marketplaces, we are monitoring and removing respective offers.

Also, HP has taken legal action, where deemed appropriate.

Over several months, we have thus been able to reduce the number of observed trade dress products by
about 90% globally.

Please highlight to customers to only accept HP cartridges in unopened original HP boxes, as described
below.

The boxes have to include the HP trademark and an HP address; in addition, all toner products
worldwide have to come with an HP security label, as do selected ink cartridges in EMEA.

Mind HP’s packaging and avoid counterfeits

Taking a look at the packaging of toner and ink cartridges can help you to avoid counterfeit products –
and to protect your business from fraudsters.

Recap some essential tips and actions recommended by HP below:

ONLY ACCEPT AND TRADE HP PRODUCTS IN UNOPENED ORIGINAL PACKAGING

Reject any offers for HP products without original HP packaging.

Original HP boxes carry dedicated security features aimed to help spotting signs of counterfeiting; as well
as important, potentially legally mandatory product information for end users.

LOOK FOR SIGNS OF TAMPERING AND OPENING/RE -SEALING ON A BOX

Be alert if you notice signs of wear and tear, such as damage to the box, or any indicators that the box
may have been opened and re-sealed, including excessive glue marks and damaged and/or incorrectly
applied HP security labels.

OPEN HP BOXES BY USING THE TEAR STRIP OF THE PACKAGING

Please advise your customers to always use the tear strip or designated opening, which can generally be
found close to the security label.

This helps prevent that cartridge boxes and security labels can be illegally re-used.

USE HP PLANET PARTNERS IF YOU WANT TO RECYCLE

If you or your customers want to recycle used cartridges for the environment, you are welcome to use
HP’s Planet Partners service, available in numerous countries worldwide.3 Please stay vigilant towards
unsolicited, dubious offers to collect and allegedly recycle used cartridges.

Please also keep in mind that HP is observing attempts by fraudsters to gather used HP boxes and other
packaging material for illegal re-use, disguising counterfeit cartridges.

HP recommends staying alert and to refrain from any such schemes – if you accept dubious offers to buy
HP printing supplies without original HP packaging or to give back original boxes that are in good
condition, this could mean that the packaging of your cartridges might be used to defraud others!
