4.8.5.1 Introduction
The objective of this manual handling session is to gain confidence and
build skills in manual handling as well as on focusing on the prevention
element of UPRT.

4.8.5.3 Instructor Techniques

Instructors should support and patter as appropriate and are encouraged
to role-play to help add reality to each scenario. Good use of mini-briefs is
beneficial and therefore expected prior to each event. These briefs should
include objectives, aircraft position and system status, who is PF and
event start/end points. Instructors are recommended to achieve the latter
through the verbal statement “I have control” or “You have control”.

4.8.5.7 GRiPS Light Objectives

With the projected launch of GRiPS in Phase 6 it has been decided to
implement a lite version of this objective driven competency based
training concept with phase 5 to help familiarize Trainers and Trainees
with this concept. During the orientation PowerPoint briefing the Trainer
will use the session objectives to brief the crew on objectives that must be
met by the end of the session. During the reflection period after the
session the Trainer will again reference the objectives with the Trainees
to ensure all objectives were met. Until full implementation of GRiPS the
OGS grading will continue using the current grading system.

Modules:

A. Accurate raw data manual flight by the PF and good monitoring and
support from PM. Also although not a direct threat prevention
considerations (UPRT) related to weather.
B. As above for other pilot.
C. Enhance handling and Situational awareness of PF, observe a
correctly handled Sidestep approach regaining 30R approach
profile, observe good monitoring and task prioritisation from PM.
D. Demonstrate understanding of the flight envelope protections
through practical use.

ATC MAURITIUS CENTRE 129.3
Objective To Practice an All Engines Failure
Guidance This is purely a training event and should be very interactive
between the instructor and the trainees. This is not to be
conducted as a LOS. The instructor will discuss the ECAM
throughout the event. Items such as Cabin Crew PA will give
the instructor an opportunity to discuss what is appropriate
rather than simply watch the crew make a PA.
This event should be handled as follows:
1. Advise the crew that this is a “training event”
2. Introduce the event
3. Precision flying is not the point of this event it is to ensure
both crewmembers observe this procedure, therefore
periodic flight freeze might be appropriate
4. Do not allow a restart of the engines
5. Approaching FL200 have the crew start the APU and
attempt an assisted start
6. When Excessive Cabin Altitude ECAM appears discuss
with the crew the priorities and remove the ECAM
7. Oxygen Masks are not required but their use should be
discussed
8. Once Slats are fully extended the exercise is over
9. This is not a graded event

4.8.6 Manual Handling Phase 6

Introduction:
The objective of this session is to gain confidence and enhance manual
handling skills while applying the prevention element of UPRT.

OM-A wind limits do not apply during the Manual handling session.

This session is designed to be completed by the PF in 90 minutes. This

allows a single trainee to be rostered for a session. PM duties are not
mandatory although if operated with a standard crew both pilots should
occupy their seats for the complete session.

Session Overview:

A. Engine Failure 00:20

B. Engine failure in the climb return ILS 14 00:20 00:40

C. EO approaches, Go Arounds, visual circuits 00:30 01:10

and Engine out landing

D. Crosswind landings 00:10 01:20

E. ISI mismanaged aircraft state 00:10 01:30

Instructor Techniques:
Instructors should support and patter as appropriate and are encouraged
to role-play to help add reality to each scenario. Good use of mini-briefs is
beneficial and therefore expected prior to each event. These briefs should
include objectives, aircraft position, system status, who is PF and event
start/ end points. Instructors are recommended to achieve the latter
through the verbal statement “I have control” or “You have control”. The
emphasis is manual handling and although there are procedural aspects
to the lesson, handling should be prioritised.

Note: During ISI (module E) the non-operating trainee will occupy the
instructor operating seat.

Session Orientation (Briefing):

A mandatory orientation PowerPoint (Phase 6 manual handling) is
available on eLearning.

This is a framework making the knowledge presentable, memorable and

useable to assist Instructors. However, it should not replace an Instructors
other instructional technique. Other content may be more appropriate
subject to the trainee’s prior experience and knowledge. Instructors must
add value during this time, adding meaning and structure to the
knowledge, prior to entering the Simulator.

ATC TWR 118.1 DEP 125.955
Objective Demonstrate manual aircraft control skills with smoothness and accuracy

Detect deviations through instrument scanning
Maintain spare mental capacity during manual aircraft control.
Guidance This module is flown with A/THR OFF.
OM-A 8.3.0.9.3 policy on amount of approaches should be discussed,
however this module is a handling module and therefore should be
treated as such, not a LOS. (Worth discussing the policy and a practical
application of it.)
Advise the crew that all go arounds are runway heading to 3000 ft, then
turn onto HDG 095 and self-position for a visual circuit runway 28.
On the first approach an unreported shift in the wind should cause a ROW
close to the flare. If it does not, Instructor should give an ATC go around
call before reversers are selected.
During the second approach, below 1,000’ select one of the failures.
There are now uncompleted checklists and switching to be done, the
approach should therefore be considered unstable and another go
around flown.
Clear the failure with the selection of gear up.
During the go around Engine will fail at 2,500 ft.
PF should position for another visual circuit while securing the Engine, no
further ECAM is required once the Master is selected off the Instructor
should clear the ECAM.
