BOF-1.5 Orifice Valve

Product Family No. H86009

Description
Baker Oil Tools BOF-1.5 Orifice Valve is a
1-1/2 inch OD valve used to control gas and or fluid
volume from the casing annulus into the tubing
where pressure control is not necessary.
The valve is designed with a square edged seat
which, when properly sized, allows volume control
when the casing and tubing pressures are known.
An integral reverse flow check prevents gas and or
fluid from flowing from the tubing back into the cas-
ing annulus.
The BOF-1.5 valve consists of a body, seat
housing, square edged seat, and check housing
with a reverse flow check drop. The valve is avail-
able in either stainless steel or nickel alloys for cor-
rosion resistance in wells with high concentrations
of H2S or CO2. Packing and elastomeric materials
for the valve are available for standard service,
corrosive service, or special individual well condi-
tions.
The simple design of the orifice valve allows for
easy replacement of the packing and for rapid low-
cost repair of components. The rugged, solid con-
struction and quality materials provide for a long
service life.
Features/Benefits
• Stainless steel or premium materials available
• Replaceable square edged seat (Tungsten
Carbide insert available)
• Flow capacity determined by orifice sizing
• Integral reverse flow check valve prevents
reverse flow communication
• Temperature rating of 250°F (standard service)
• Standard Neoprene packing with other
materials available
• Compatible with other manufacturers side
pocket mandrels

Operation Valve Application And Operation

Refer to Drawing No’s. 399-575 and 399-574.
Drawing No. 399-575
A properly sized square edged orifice (seat) is
installed in the valve. Prior to running, the appropri-
ate top mounted R series latch is threaded on to
the top of the valve. This assembly can then be in-
stalled into a side pocket mandrel on the surface
before running the tubing string into the well or by
using standard wireline tools and methods if the
tubing string has already been installed in the well.
When the valve has been installed in the man-
drel pocket, the tubing is isolated from the casing
annulus by the valve's two sets of packing located
above and below the mandrel side ports.
In operation, gas and or fluid that is injected into
the casing annulus enters through the ports in the
side pocket mandrel. This gas and or fluid then en-
ters through the ports in the valve that are located
in the seat housing between the two sets of pack-
ing. The gas and or fluid then flows through the
square edged seat, past the reverse flow check
drop, through the nose and into the tubing.
Reverse flow through the valve is prevented by
the reverse flow check drop in the valve's check
housing.
The check drop seats against a fixed elasto-
meric primary seal with a metal to metal secondary
seal.
The BOF-1.5 orifice valve is available with
square edged orifice (seat) sizes of 1/8 through
1/2 inch.
