Dear Executive Committee

I have known Avi Nardia for thirteen years, first meeting him at his school in
Rochester (New York, USA) and studying Kapap and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I
have traveled with Master Nardia to Elche (Spain), Istanbul (Turkey),
Belgrade (Serbia), Dallas (Texas, USA), Lynchburg (Virginia, USA), Toronto
(Canada), Miami (Florida, USA) and Acapulco (Mexico).
I have been a student of Avi Nardia for thirteen years, studying in Brazilian Jiu
Jitsu (achieved blue belt), Kapap combatives (level 4 instructor) and Israeli Jiu
Jitsu (black belt, second degree).
The contributions that I have personally witnessed as well as the direct and
indirect effects of the teaching and philanthropy of Master Avi Nardia are
innumerable. His teachings of Kapap build and extend the legacy of Israeli
combatives in the most authentic manner. His traditional study of Japanese
swordsmanship and assiduous dedication to maintaining the intangible
Japanese culture in his style of teaching and his continuance of the Kendo
legacy. Furthermore, he has learned Brazilian Jiu jitsu from one of the families
that has pioneered the art, continuing the legacies and stories of the founders
of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and imparting that knowledge to his students. Finally, his
philanthropic efforts to support the most disadvantaged community in Kenya,
in the village of Kibera, have helped provide hope to an area that has very
little support. He has provided equipment, food and training to the children of
Kibera and even helped raise money for one of the girls of the community to
go to college. This is just scratching the surface of the incalculable
contribution that master Avi Nardia has made in safeguarding the intangible
cultural heritage of Israel and of the many styles that he has studied and his
teaching weaves an unparalleled tapestry of those legacies and heritages to
pass them on to today’s generation.
