In this interactive white board activity, the children will touch the board to identify
similarities and differences in the primary and secondary sources and learn about

Japanese internment camps in the United States.


Activity 1. The students will enter the class and start their reading
quiz based on the homework reading assigned and the
teacher will be passing those out as they greet the
students at the door.
2. After 5 mins the teacher will collect the quizzes and go
over the answers.
3. Next the teacher will go over the primary and secondary
sources with the students and clarify any questions the
students may have about the subject.
4. Ask the students to think of some similarities and
differences they can draw based on the sources and ask
the students to share them.
5. Students will then go to the board and write their
responses in the correlating space on the venn diagram.
If students are hesitant/shy, then the teacher should ask
questions to draw the students in and help guide them.
6. After the venn diagram is complete, the teacher will
start a discussion on the treatment of the Japanese
Americans and the prisoners of war in in WWII. The
discussion should be mostly student led but the
students may need a prompted question by the teacher
if the discussion slows down. The discussion will help
determine the student’s mastery of the material.
7. At the end of the class, before the bell rings, the
students will complete their exit ticket which the
students will need their electronic devices for. They will
answer two questions: What is one new idea from
today? And How will you use this information?. This will
help the students actively think about the new material
and subject at hand.
8. Allow the students to pack up and dismiss at the bell.
