ĐỀ THI NGÀY 14/01/2023

Task 1: The graph below shows the percentage of workers from five different European countries
that were absent for a day or more due to illness from 1991 to 2001. Summarise the information by
selecting reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Task 2: Video records are a better way to learn about the way other people in the world live rather
than written documents. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

TASK 1

Bài mẫu

The graph gives information relating to the percentage of people that were absent from work due
to sickness for one or more days from 1991 to 2001.

Overall, the Netherlands had the highest rate of people taking leave from work due to illness in
almost all years of the study, while Germany had the lowest rate.

In 1991, around 5% of the workforce from both the Netherlands and France were off from work for
a day or more due to sickness. By 1996, the percentage of workers who had taken sick leave
had dropped to around 4% in the Netherlands, and just over 3% in France. While this
figure stabilised at around 3% over the remaining years in France, the percentage of workers taking
sick days in the Netherlands bounced back up to around 5.5% by 2001.

Meanwhile, the percentage of workers taking sick days in Sweden rose from 3% in 1991 to over
4.5% in 2001. Additionally, while the percentage of workers taking sick days in the UK hovered
slightly above 2% over the period, the figure for Germany remained at just under 2% over the entire
period.

Band điểm ước lượng:

Phân tích từ vựng:

 To be absent from work due to sickness ~ taking leave from work due to illness ~ off from
work ~ taking sick days: không đi làm vì ốm
 The highest rate > < the lowest rate: tỉ lệ cao nhất > < tỉ lệ thấp nhất
 Around 5% of the workforce: khoảng 5% lực lượng lao động
 To drop to around 4%: giảm xuống khoảng 4%
 Just over 3%: nhỉnh hơn 3%
 Stabilised: ổn định lại
 Over the remaining years: trong những năm còn lại
 To bounce back up to around 5.5%: phục hồi lên khoảng 5.5%
 To hover slightly above 2%: quanh quẩn trong khoảng trên 2% (“hover” được dùng để miêu tả
số liệu không thay đổi nhiều trong khoảng thời gian dài)
TASK 2

Thanks to the wonders of video technology, it has become very easy to learn about the way that
people live their lives in other countries. However, I would argue that although video is an extremely
useful tool, written documents hold an equally valuable place in educating people about the
customs and culture of those from other countries.

Firstly, video provides people with multiple ways to learn about how other people around the
world live. Not only is it far easier to watch a video compared to reading, but it is also a lot
more visually exciting and interesting. Whether it be a film, a documentary, or a short clip on
Youtube, videos are a highly stimulating and entertaining way of learning, thanks to their use of
both visual images and audio. Furthermore, thanks to the internet, most people now have access to
an unlimited source of information in the form of video, that allows them to learn about almost
any subject, including the customs and cultures of different people around the world and how they
live their lives.

However, written documents such as books, magazines, newspapers, and online articles are still an
excellent source of learning material. Scientific studies have shown that reading is a more effective
way of learning compared to watching video, especially when it comes to the retention of specific
details of information. Therefore, as an educational tool, reading may in fact be superior. In
addition, books are quite often a far more reliable source of information compared to what we may
see in a video. Due to the cost and time that it takes to produce, publish, and print a book, the
content is often well researched and reliable, unlike a lot of the content we find in videos on the
internet these days.

In conclusion, I do not agree that video is a better way of learning about how other people in the
world live, though I do believe that it is an effective learning tool.
