Way back in high school, we were

Our Family Saint was so-called competitive

in many aspects like bible quiz, cleaning contest,
and sports although we are not always lucky to
win the title, each and every one tried “The Best of
Our Best”! Our Som life was the best memories we
ever had though we are not family by blood in our
hearts, we are more than a family. We may have
had differences but in every corner of the campus
we successfully came up with one goal and vision.
As part of the St. Melania Family. We remain “The
Mark Wherever We are Now”. We still maintain
each other’s camaraderie and bond when we
have a chance to meet each other. Nothing has

W
ho would have thought
that there would be an
institution for the poorest
of the poor? An institution
that would provide costless shelter, school,
clothing, food, and a high level of education?
Let me tell you this, all of the prior privileges
are real and subsisting even till now. Have
me further introduce the institution I was
talking about earlier. I firmly believe that
the institution was established out of love,
compassion, and faith. The Sisters of Mary
School was founded on August 15, 1985, by
Msgr. Aloysius Schwartz. Thousands or even
millions of children received incomparable
amounts of assistance from this genuine
institution. The school opens up the
innocent minds of children who willingly
surrender to stay inside the school for four
years. Children have been bestowed lots
of knowledge academically and spiritually
so that they could combat whatever they
would be encountering inside and outside
the school. Why are we so at home with

this school? Because we are one of the
chosen few to belong to this program.
We are the living miracles of Fr. Aloysius
Schwartz.
The Sisters of Mary School truly believed
in what we call generosity at all costs. Fr.
Aloysius Schwartz had overcome all the
invincible times of begging to provide
all the things his children needed to
survive and may have a better life in the
future. His children were able to have
a comfortable shelter, decent clothing,
and compassionate people who guided
and supported us until the very end
of our stay inside the school. Prayer
is the mightiest weapon the Sisters
(nuns) taught us. We were shaped into
someone we never expected ourselves
to become. From being innocent
children to a more fearless people of
God who are willing to do and face all
the adversities in life after leaving our
beloved holy abode. Even up to this
moment The Sisters of Mary School is
standing still and continuing the legacy
of Fr. Al, now known as Vulnerable
Aloysius Schwartz.
When we first came to school we never
had anything with us except ourselves.
We were given our own new families
according to when we arrived at the
school. We belong to a family named St.
Veronica. We were gathered and lived
in one room without any knowledge
of who each other was. Obviously,
attitudes, behaviors, and beliefs were
obviously different from one another.
But because of the unending love and
support of our so-called Mother (the
nuns) and Helping Sisters (Graduates
working inside the school) we became
united and comprehended each of our
differences. It was tough at some point in
our lives. But then again, the teachings
of Fr. Al is much stronger than any
other adversaries that we encountered.

of the Best? Of course, most of us belong
to higher sections at school. We were

other extra-curricular activities. What’s

ho are we? The Saint Maria Goretti
Family!
Let’s take a trip down memory lane…
We were a bunch of kids from
different places around the Philippines. Given that,
we speak different dialects. Funny how one word
in Ilonggo or Hiligaynon would mean something
else in Bisaya or Waray. We never understood
each other at first. This bit was a struggle.
How about we combine forty-nine girls in one
room, all with different big personalities, strengths
and capabilities? Each one getting homesick and
emotional thinking about the loved ones they left in
order to study away from home. Each one a young
soul, seeking love and comfort in an unfamiliar
place, fighting their own individual battles. Each
one coming from different backgrounds and
ways they were raised. This was way more than a
struggle.
But let me tell you this, in the whole four
years that we stayed inside the campus of SOM,
we were each other’s strength and we held on
to one another. Yes, we had little fights here and
there, maybe even more than anyone could’ve
imagined. But we were each other’s support
system and confidant, we held each other’s hands
and comforted each other when we would see
someone cry. We would sit together and share

stories, both happy and sad. What stood out was
the fact that we were inside to become better
people, for ourselves and for our families. To live
up to being children of Father Al.
We were the toughest kids, we were taught
to be very disciplined. Together we brushed
and cleaned basketball courts, we cleaned beds
and folded sheets, we washed our dishes and
swept our floors, we were taught to draft and
sew clothes, we took basic electronic units, we
were taught culinary, we gardened and planted
flowers, we became student teachers to our
fellow students, we jogged around the campus
as family, we played basketball, volleyball,
patintero, anything. We were curious about life
and learning.
Let’s not forget to mention we were pretty much
a very competitive family too. As a family saint,
we would win in cheering contests, sometimes
we would get the 1st spot, sometimes the 2nd,
we were very determined and we never gave
up. We would win cleaning contests too and we
would go on family outings outside the campus
as a reward.
Together, we had so much fun and we grew
stronger, regardless of how homesick we were,
constantly on the verge of just wanting to give
up and go home to our families. We would pray

Let’s fast forward to where we are now?
We are still sisters, a complete family of forty-nine strong and beautiful women who now consider
a group chat as our way to bond. We laugh at our memories together, we share updates of what’s
going on in our lives. We hold a soft spot in each other’s hearts. We are still warriors of Father Al.
Some of us have met again regardless of coming from different cities, visited The Sisters of Mary
campus again and bonded with the Sisters and the students, our little sisters. We relived our lives and
memories inside the campus. And we will always have this longing to go back where we came from.
We’ve grown so much too. Some of us are managing our own small businesses, some are working
abroad helping their families, we have teachers too, a chief medical technologist, online sellers, and
others are working from home. And the most fun part, many of us are enjoying married life with kids,
what’s more fulfilling than having a family you can call your own, right? We all are living in our own
definition of success.
The Sisters of Mary has been our place of love, unity, faith, hope, fun, safety and everything else
our young adult selves needed, our sanctuary, and it will always remain that. We have been outside
of that happy and safe bubble for almost two decades, and yet we still try to continue to live up to
everything that we have learned as children of Father Al. We always try to serve the Lord with Joy!
We are the Saint Maria Goretti Family. Always have been! Always will be! Forever sisters, bonded
by love wherever we may all go.

THE MIGHTY TEAM
In 1999, recruitment and screening of student
applicants as scholars for the prestigious The Sisters
of Mary School took place in different provinces
of the Philippine archipelago. Thousands of
students took the entrance examination and got
interviewed to be qualified for the scholarship.
In 2000, about 800 students were successfully
transported from different parts of Visayas and
Mindanao to the Girlstown Compound in Talisay
City, Cebu.

It was April 2000, when we first met each

other in the Sisters of Mary premises. We were
on the 4th Floor of the St. Therese Building along
with the other family saints at that time bearing
the code 00G in every personal property that
was given to each of us. We started as 44 girls
in the family but eventually became 48 because
additional members from dissolved families were
distributed.

22 years ago, we became a part of a

prestigious school in Cebu in which we
were nurtured and molded to become a
better version of ourselves. This School
gave us hope and still gives hope at the
moment to the children like us who most
needed their help.

It is founded by our beloved Venerable

Aloysius Schwartz who gave his whole life
helping the poorest of the poor children by
giving them shelter and everything they
need but most especially the education
they needed to reach their dreams and
goals in life. Not only that, but with the
help of the Sisters and their Catechism, our
spiritual life learning widened.
The Saint Sabina Family back then was
a very competitive family. Not bragging
about it because we really are. We even
had an outing at that time as a reward and
experienced the outside world together. It
was the most awesome and unforgettable
experience ever. We were not a perfect
family but were struggling to be. We
had misunderstandings sometimes but we resolved it
immediately through an open forum.
Now as part of the Alumni, We are forever grateful and we
will always remember that each one of us was once a poor
child who was given the opportunity by the Sisters of Mary
to be one of their scholars. Thanks for all the help Father
Al, wherever you are, We know you are watching over your
children. We are very happy to be part of the community.
It’s time for us to give back. Your legacy will continue from
generation to generation with the help of the Sisters and
the Alumni. We love you Venerable Aloysius Schwartz.

family of brothers wherein we stand as
one team being together for four long
years in a wonderful and well-known
congregation called SOM. Being there for
4 long years was full of fun, struggles, motivation,
and challenges. We are molding ourselves to be
a better one through the help and support of our
caring nuns and teachers.
St. Lawrence was one of the solid families of the
11th batch. Home of champions because we
mostly lead in terms of sports and any contests
and it’s because we’re bringing the spirit of unity
and cooperation in all we do. There were times we
seemed to be rude, created fights between our
fellow brothers but still in the end we embraced
the spirit of brotherly love. We are very proud to
share that we have our fellow brother who is now
on his career in serving the Lord and his people
in Jamaica. Bro Nowel Rebamonte dedicated
himself to a vow of priesthood and we are proud
to say he was the kindest and most diligent fellas
of our family. Three of our fellows actually joined
him but the call was just for him.
I’m proud to say also that our CAT commandant in
our batch was from our family and that is Kuya Gone
Gerong, our very supportive Kuya. We also thank
our beloved sister in charge who really stands as
our mother for their perseverance and patience in
taking care of us. Mentioning sister Candelaria in
our 1st year, sister Angelita in our 2nd, sister Rizza
in 3rd, and sister Maureen in 4th whom I shall say
“the last woman standing”hahaha..saying thank
you is not enough for their kindness to us. Above
all, we raise our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to
our beloved fr. Al who made this for us. He raised
us from poor to rich in spirit

about St. Paul. He was born

Lord and King. Saul was not motivated by

suddenly enveloped him, and he fell
helplessly to the ground. A voice asked,
“Saul, Saul, why do you persecute thou me?”
In response, Saul asked two questions: “Who
art thou, Lord?” and “Lord, what wilt thou
have me to do?”
Having been struck blind, Saul was assisted
into the city by his companions.
Saul became a great defender of the faith,
a dynamic teacher of righteousness, and
a fearless preacher to the world. He went
first to the Jews in their synagogues, then
subsequently made three missionary
journeys, carrying the message of the
resurrected Christ to many peoples. While
on a mission to the gentiles, he became
known as Paul. His love for and interest in
his converts found him returning to oversee
their progress and writing them letters of

In the year 2000, there were 45 young
people, “missionaries on their own ‘’,
coming from different places wrapped by
their mission, to finish their studies. They
were given the privilege of free education at
the High School level in The Sisters of Mary
School, Boystown, Minglanilla, Cebu. They
Left their respective families to embrace the
big opportunity and have the same goal,
to study and to help. Those young people
were blessed and were chosen to carry the
name of St. Paul and were called Paulinians
Brothers, it was us.
During our first stay, it was very difficult.
Indeed, groups were created under one roof.
This is because we were not comfortable
being one another having different dialects
and different lifestyles. Some of our brothers
escaped, and one of them was sent back
home due to illness, so sad. But life won’t
end there. Time passed, and we were able
to overcome the kind of situation through
the help of our sister-in charge and helping
brother through their encouragement and
patience. They assigned us to daily activities
by a pair or group in different areas, though
others preferred to work alone for cleaning.
Through this, unity and understanding
towards each other were developed. We
excelled in the cleaning contest. In fact, we
ranked up in 2nd or 3rd place every year.
We participated in indoor and outdoor
sports activities. Showing up our individual
talents like singing, dancing, and playing
musical instruments. Some of us were
chosen to compete outside with other school
campuses.
We were so lucky because The Sisters of
Mary did not just enhance our talents but
imparted us knowledge in different areas of
living like drafting, machining, knowledge
about computers, and others. They equipped
us with all the knowledge that they knew
they would use in the future. Bound with
prayer and dedication which they planted
and are now rooted in our hearts.
The Year 2003 would be our last year inside
The Sisters of Mary. Some of us decided to
work and some left and continued to study.
We are happy to see our brothers who
got an opportunity to work in different
companies. We feel so loved. However,
graduation day came which we called the
day full of sadness. Knowing that it would
be the last day seeing us together. Yes, we
claimed victory over the past years! But the
memories that we had for those years for
sure will be missed and longed for. But,
we don’t want those to be called literally
“Bridge underwater” because wherever we
go and whatever we are right now. We are
still Paulinians Brothers. TO GOD BE THE
GLORY!

The Everlasting Connections of People, Not in Blood, Races,
Friendships,But in Attitude, Religion and Belief” We believe that not
only friendship, blood, but races can also develop connections between
humans, and can make it stronger every time. But in our family saints, we
believed that a strong connection can be developed between attitudes,
religions, and beliefs. We came into the school with no one knowing us,
but only ourselves. We enter the Sisters of Mary School with no friends,
no blood connections nor are we not of the same race. But all of that
changed when we are being developed by the day, in the use of our one
reli- gion, and belief. And as time went by we developed one attitude,
and it became stronger than a relationship with our blood, race, and
friends out there. We grow more than brothers, and until now even for
a very long time we still have a connection with each other. We have
been in many troubles but we are still much better now with the use of
multi- media. Let us say that we are too far from each other but in the
use of multimedia, we are still one. And we hope until the time will stop
us, to communicate with. I start this essay with nothing to say, but for
the sake of our younger brother, who is still looking for their destiny.
Don’t stop dreaming about something. Sisters of Mary is a very good
start for you, no one ever school outside can ever do the same way
what the school is. To the records, Sisters of Mary School is the number
one school about something. Sisters of Mary is a very good start for you,

Philippines, in terms of discipline. And we are proud of it, being one of
the alumni. As we are part of the Sisters of Mary School. We go into so
many trials inside. We treat each other like we are true brothers, mistake

one enemy of all. We have this rule that any incident or activity inside
the family saint, remains inside the family. Any pain and sacrifice of each
brother of the family were felt by all the members of the family. We are
stronger than true brothers than true family. We believe in one brother,
one family. And through one religion and one faith, one God, and with
one and only founder Father Al. We cannot forget our founder. He is
the way that we were able to unite even though we came from not
the same races, religions, families, and cultures, but were able to unite,
as one family. We have many troubles as time goes by. We have to do
one work, one play, one study. We believe that not rac- es friendships,
nor blood, can be able to unite the people but also can unite through
religion and beliefs later through faith.

T
imothinians brothers were 48 young men
with big dreams. Came together and
lived under one roof for four long years
at THE SISTERS OF MARY. An institution
that provides FREE shelter, food, and
high-quality education to those deserving
students. We came from different parts of Mindanao
and Visayas.
The first few weeks at the school were the most
difficult time….a time of adjustment. But as we got
along with each other unity and love started to build.
We were proud to say that our family saint was intact
until we graduated. We had a good relationship with
each other until we parted ways.
Way back then we were handled by very strict
helping brothers, thanks to them for we were well-
disciplined young men. Our family saint may not have
the smart guys but we were very competitive, we
conquered everyone in almost all contests. We had
the most number of outings.
We graduated with great memories to take with
us along our journey outside the campus. Forever
grateful to FATHER AL, to all the nuns, and teachers
who never get tired of imparting values that molded
us into better individuals.
We may have different paths now but the
brotherhood remains. Distance does not lessen the
love and care we have for each other.

A
MBROSIANS as we popularly
call ourselves. We are in the
family of young brothers
amidst our differences by
places of origin across VISAYAS
and Mindanao. Standing strong and proud
in our almost four fruitful years of staying in
the most remarkable place during our high
school years, the SISTERS OF MARY. Where
we were molded into better individuals.
Amidst the challenges that we face based
on origin and culture, we remain steadfast,
calm, and cheerful no matter how hard the
situation was.
Ambrosian was a kind of brotherhood
where we shared the same soap and the
same underwear. We helped each other
by cleaning our dorm yet 80% of the time
we came dead last in the cleaning contest.
We were a resilient bunch and so we hid

puddings in our cabinets for the next day’s
breakfast.
For we loved each other so much, we
let others go free while others went diving
into sewage canals.
We may not have Cadets or high-
ranking officers in the dorm, but we have
the best basketball team in the school. We
also have tons of mad geniuses in the family
and hmmm we are all good-looking young
men.
We got the best teachers and nuns
who molded us into better individuals. As
we stepped out of SOM we brought with
us the teachings our teachers and nuns had
imparted to us.
Years passed by, it’s been almost 2
decades since our graduation. Ambrosians
are now grown-up men trying to live a life
abiding by the teachings of FATHER AL.

remain brothers at heart, that’s
who we are: The Franciscan
brothers of ONSE...
We were a bunch of young
innocent men with big dreams..
living our individual families and came to live
under one roof.
When we first entered the campus we
were astonished by the surroundings full of
basketball courts. The first few weeks were not
that easy...we struggled with the language we
spoke for we came from different ethnicities...
Eventually, unity and compassion for
each started to build. We were so competitive
in many competitions. We excel especially in
Bible quizzes. We enjoyed outings, our awards
for every win.
Not all the time we’re the good ones there
are times when our naughtiness
strikes some of us used to hide puddings in our
closet for the next day’s breakfast..some of us
loved to throw garbage always cause they got
the chance to see the outside surroundings.
Some of us even got a crush on our sister in
charge of… opps.
We seldom win in the basketball league
but we excel in other aspects. We’ve got great
singers in the house. Our mother sister will
let us sing most of the time. The Rondalla
conductor is in the house ( Kuya @Albert Salazar
) and witty student teachers( Edison Benliro,
Denver Grijaldo, and Karl Leyson. We’ve got
CAT officers in the house( Roejan Von Edjan,
Marlo Hermo, and Angelito Gabule).
Utter thank you will never be enough to
express our gratitude to our dear Father Al,
to all the nuns who took care of us for almost
four years. Imparting values that molded
into better individuals. To our dear teachers
who have always been patient in teaching us
lessons academically. We are what we are now
because of you all...
We bid our goodbyes to everyone last
2003 but that does cut the brotherhood we
had. We may have different paths right now
but we continue to communicate with each
other...

S
t. Nicholas’s family is composed
of 41 great fighters that came
from Visayas and Mindanao.
Entering inside the portals of
The Sisters of Mary Boystown
School, we had overcome our differences
in terms of beliefs and culture. First, we
need to adjust to each other’s character.
But soon as time passed, we were molded
by virtues and characteristics to become
one solid family.One of the characteristics
we had was being cooperative. We had
won the cleaning contest because losing
it would lead us to clean the court under
the heat of the sun or have 10 rounds
of jogging around the oval. Winning
the cleaning contest allowed us to go to
beach outings and lots of packs of candies
which made us happy as young students.
Boys are boys, and we are cheating our
time, especially during prayer time. We
sometimes spend it on the 7th floor
while others sacrifice an hour of kneeling
praying at stations of the cross. We also
hide extra biscuits from our snacks that
will be reserved for tomorrow’s breakfast.
During the gardening time, some of us
climb the coconut tree which was strictly
prohibited by our sister-in-charge, while
others hide some corn to be cooked
upstairs using an improvised cooking
method as an application of what we have
learned from our electronics subject. We
also, cover one’s fault so that we won’t
be punished by our sister for her motto is
“one is for all, all is for one”. These are a
few of boys’ negative characteristics that
we miss doing all the time. Now that we
are outside the world, we long for all of
this. The strictness but loving corrections
of our mother sisters really made us better
individuals. We grow strong and firm in
battling hardship and trials in life. But
until now, through social media, we were
able to unite ourselves as one solid family.

T
he St. Aloysius family, just like the
other family saints, though came
from a diverse culture around
Visayas and Mindanao group as
One. Each of us has different traits and
attitudes. Some have the willingness to
unite and some have their own ways. We
felt special because our family saint bears
the name of Beloved Founder Fr. Al. In
our early years, our eyes were in tears,
sometimes caused by loneliness. But as the
years went by, the brotherhood became
steadfast. We do our everyday tasks: eat,
Study, Work and Pray. Our sweat never
stops for the great struggle to win in the
Cleaning Contest. We stand out in some
indoor and outdoor games despite being
unlucky in the Cleaning Contest. But we
never stop, until we became a winner
during our last year in school. Our batch
was lucky, because we are the only batch
at that time, permitted to go outside the
Campus. We have been permitted to swim
at the beach of Tungkop with our fellow
11th batch during our last days at the
School.Our family may not be the best
during our time. We have been through

a lot of troubles with our brothers and
sisters in charge. We have been through a
lot of punishments. Some of our brothers
stood out bravely even to the point of
being surrounded by our older batch
brothers at the doors and threatened to
be harassed. We witness our roommates
being dismissed due to their violations
which made us feel sadness. But all of
these things we endure, maybe by the
grace of God. Despite all the odds, we are
still happy as we bond ourselves with our
closest dormmates. We spend bonding
time through music and jokes. As we are
about to graduate, some of our dormmates
showcase their talents. We are proud to
present ourselves that our family gives
more happiness to our brothers as we
create the ‘’ Ice Breaker”. The group was
formed by St. Aloysius for the purpose
of a dance presentation but with a twist
of a unique Comedy Dance. The group
became a name tag to St. Aloysius by the
younger batch/brothers in our time. With
all of these things, we cannot be on our
own without the guidance of our Sister in
Charge and Helping Brothers.

“Grace is never given for us alone. It is given to us so that it might flow

through us to others”.

The moment l enter the Sisters of Mary I clearly understand my purpose

and that is to humbly offer all of me as a sign of thanksgiving for all the
blessings I received especially the second and the 3rd life given to my
parents when she met a vehicular accident. I never ask a man as a partner
to have my own children, but as an aspirant of the Sisters of Mary, I am
privileged to handle the Boys of the 11th batch of Minglanilla. A mother

Each family has different age gaps, different
strengths, and weaknesses but they are all
good, obedient, talented, and hardworking
thus they are loved much, love in a sense
of not spoiling them. Being with them for
8mos teaches me a lot of things though they
grow up and successfully and continuously
excelled in the different fields they have
chosen they are still my little boys whom I
always smiled at even I’m alone every time
I saw a group of children, whether they are
students, rags boys or any other street boys.
