Given a rectangular beam having a width of 270 mm and an effective depth
of 480 mm. The Beam is reinforced for tension only with a steel area of 3500
mm2. use f’c = 25MPa ; fy = 400 Mpa

a. Determine the Depth of the Compression block “a” .


b. Determine the Nominal Moment Capacity of the Beam section.
c. Determine the Ultimate Moment Capacity of the Beam section.
d. Find the Uniform ultimate load “wu” that the beam can carry in a simple
span of 6 meters.
e. Determine the safe uniform live load that the beam can carry (unit weight
of concrete is 23.6 KN/m3) ; d’ = 70 mm.
f. Describe the mode of design of the beam section.
