Miracle In Cell No. 7

ORIENTATION
Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2022) is an Indonesian family drama film released on
September 22, 2022. This film was written by Alim Sudio and directed by Hanung
Bramantyo. Miracle in Cell No. 7 is the remake of the 2013 South Korean film of the same
name. This film was directed by Lee Hwan-Kyung. The success of the film, which also
starred Park Shin-Hye, also made it get adaptations in various countries. These countries are
India, the Philippines, Turkey, and Indonesia.
This Falcon Pictures production film stars Vino G. Bastian as Dodo Rozak, Abigail as
the child Kartika, and Mawar Eva de Jongh as the adult Kartika. And friends of detention cell
no. 7 are Indro Warkop, Tora Sudiro, Rigen Rakelna, Indra Jegel, and Bryan Domani, as well
as the head of the prison, Denny Sumargo.
INTERPRETATIVE RECOUNT
The story begins with the story of a father with a mental disability who has a daughter
named Kartika. Amazingly, the father (Dodo) always works selling balloons to meet his
children's daily needs. Kartika is also not ashamed of her father's condition and always tries
to make her father happy and proud of her accomplishments and accomplishments even
though they live in poor financial conditions. One day, Dodo, his father, was accused of
sexually assaulting and raping, and killing a girl named Melati, but due to his mental
retardation, Dodo was unable to defend himself, so he was sentenced to death and sentenced
to prison. Well, that's where he was placed in detention cell no. 7 along with other inmates.
Day after day, Dodo was worried about the condition of his daughter who was far
from being monitored, until one day, thanks to the help of other inmates who worked hard in
carrying out the plan, Kartika finally managed to be smuggled into the detention cell.
Strangely, the inmates were shocked and shocked to see Dodo's affection for his daughter.
only that. This is what makes the other inmates feel confused and question again the truth of
the alleged criminal case against Dodo.
Several months later, after gathering some concrete evidence, Hendro filed an appeal,
but this coincided with the return of Melati's father, William, as governor, where he tightened
child abuse laws, meaning Dodo's chances of leaving were slim. And in the end, the trial
Although the appeal that he made was accepted by the court, the influence of Melati's parents
was too great to resist. Even intimidation from Melati's father made Dodo admit mistakes he
had never made. This made Dodo Rozak unable to argue anymore. This man must face
execution for the safety of his daughter.
This scene is shown at the end of this film which makes the audience cry, where
Kartika has grown up and managed to escape from the bondage of punishment that was being
served by her father all that time.
EVALUATION
Miracle in Cell No. 7 was successful in its first release, many audiences were
enthusiastic and liked this film. In this film we are made to laugh, cry, be disappointed,
touched, annoyed, and cry again because the players really play a role and act well from
nature and soul.
Vino G. Bastian, to portray the very real Dodo Rozak character, was willing to go
back and forth to consult a psychologist. Abigail and Mawar De Jongh successfully played
Kartika. Miracle in Cell No.7 will not be complete without the presence of five residents of
cell number seven who can bring a fresh sense of humor into this film. And don't forget Pak
Hendro or Denny Sumargo who look very authoritative and able to live up to their role as
chairman. The chemistry between the players is also very strong which makes the audience
not feel strange seeing it.
This allows the audience to let go of the stigma that the film being watched is not just
a remake of a popular film from South Korea. Miracle in Cell No. 7 (2013) directed by Lee
Hwan-Kyung was released in 2013 in South Korea. Even though these two films are very
similar because the Indonesian version is indeed a remake of the Korean version, there are
still differences. Starting from Dodo Rozak's profession, the initial storyline is slightly
different, the reason Dodo Rozak can be imprisoned, the climate is different because it is
snowing there, the background is taken, the law is used, the soundtrack is different, and other
differences. That difference does not make the storyline and ending differently.
Both of these films have their own advantages and disadvantages. The Indonesian
version may be more able to change feelings when watching it and the soul of the players is
superior to the Korean version. However, the Indonesian version has a deficiency in the
lighting of the film, the warm colors used seem less natural. And there is a scene that is not
quite connected, namely the riot that occurred in prison between Japra and Okto. There is no
strong background story about the animosity between the two. The Korean version is more
general than the Indonesian version, which has a more detailed story, maybe because of the
remake version, which should know the shortcomings of the first film. Apart from that,
Hanung Bramantyo's work is very interesting to watch. The original director, Lee Hwan-
kyung, even praised the Indonesian version of this remake. According to Hwan-kyung,
Miracle in Cell No. 7 Indonesian version is the best remake compared to other versions.
SUMMATIVE EVALUATION
Overall, in my opinion, Miracle in Cell No.7 (2022) is the best Falcon Pictures
remake project. In terms of acting, storyline, cinematography and scoring, everything looks
very well prepared. For 145 minutes, I really enjoyed seeing how Dodo and Kartika live.
Various plot holes are slowly being answered, so that the audience is increasingly touched by
the story. In every scene, we will definitely laugh, cry, be annoyed, touched, and our curiosity
will be aroused when we watch it. Don't forget the original soundtrack from Andmesh
entitled "Andaikan Kau Datang Kembali" which makes this film amazing and almost perfect.
It can be seen that this film was worked on very seriously and thoroughly. Not to mention,
there are lots of moral messages conveyed by this film. One of them is the right to life with
disabilities and the love of a father that is no less great than that of a mother. Miracle in Cell
No. 7 (2022) is highly recommended to watch, especially with family, friends or partners
