PCA-Symbolic Frame Worksheet


Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the symbolic frame
2. Apply the symbolic frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

The situation I talked about in Module 1 is a case of the absence of clear direction. This has
been a situation that has been going on for some time now within the organization. It was a
case of no clear direction and a lack of a well defined goal that will drive the team to
roductivity and profitability. This affects decision-making, lack of communication, affects
competence level, to name a few. My role is to make sure that the team has a clear and
common goal, is committed to the common goal, and also makes sure that there is an
environment within which everyone contributes, and everyone benefits.

2) Describe how the symbols of the organization influenced the situation.

A well-structured organization should have a positive Symbolic Frame structure that its
functions will be to effectively get employees on board with the organization's vision and
mission, improve and enhance the organization's productivity and interests, be able to
maintain a healthy agenda to acquire, increase, and use culture and resources to build the
organization brand while organizing and defining the workplace that will be a tag to the
organization identity. Deeper use of symbolism and narrative can be used in this situation to
motivate and build a general attitude among the employees.
This can be used to gain the desired outcome on issues like this, and also solve employee
concerns and problems, and provide an acceptable workplace culture and environment that
is conducive for all. The organization has a well-organized and workable symbolic frame that
has helped this situation and I believe there is a workable practice in place that guide and
informs the actions of all team members to the leadership of the organization.The
organization has used Symbolic Frame to create an awareness and performance
ssessment, They have used it for recognizing the warning sign when there is a sign of lack
of direction. They have also used it to respond to team members' concerns and create
performance strategies for planning, and managing purposes when their signs are obvious,
and use it to immediately address them. This has helped to motivate team members and
also helped to hear and address grievances when there is no clear direction. The
organization has used Symbolic Frame to build and sustain faith and spirit in the face of a

lack of clear direction and also use it to manage the conflicts that this has created in order to
make the team more productive. They have communicated openly and honestly about
this, and also collaborate respectfully across the department, maintain a positive working
relationship among employees, and also monitor issues that are noticed, encourage the
employee to reach out with concerns, and set positive examples for the employee to follow,
to name a few. All these have yielded positive results, but it is not enough when no one is
being punished for their lack of vision and clear direction.

3) Recommend how you would use organizational symbols for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

Symbols are considered a reflection of an organization's culture and also help provide clues
about the organization's characters, identity, and value system. Organizational symbols are
very important and it is what measures organizations commitments and performance. What I
will do as an alternative course of action is to allow team members to use the organization's
symbol to support the organization's mission, and vision, and also use in-depth information
about the organization to create a sense of clear direction that will be effective in their
performance and productivity. I will use it to create consistent and authentic behaviors that
will foster a clear direction that the team needs for productivity and consistency. I will use
this to affect all aspects of my organization, from punctuality and tone to employee benefits
and productivity. When organizational culture aligns with the employee, they're more likely to
feel more comfortable, productive, committed, comfortable, supported and valued. I will also
use this to create an organizational culture of developing and executing a plan with clear
objectives that all employees within the organization can work towards and measure. This
will help me build a culture of continuity that will deliver long-term benefits across my
organization.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

All of these structural frames are very important to the success of any organization and I
believe all work hand-in-hand and technically the same. What I will do is still the same
thing I will do for all the structural frames. What I will do is make sure that I have a
well-defined symbolic structure that everyone within and outside the organization will
follow. I will make sure that this particular frame (Symbolic Frame) emphasizes the need
for organizational culture to reach goals, not to see a symbolic cultural frame that will set
the organization backward. A good organizational structure will always allow my
organization to function at its best which will foster good and better communication and
fast growth, which will help build a good organizational identity. This particular structure I
will use to help understand the importance of a symbolic structure frame within the
organization and how to use it effectively to help motivate and build a general attitude
among all employees and also use it to build a visual identity for the organization's
growth. I will use this Symbolic Frame to manage conflicts to make them productive, use
it in building and sustaining the faith in the organization, and also use it to foster
performance and productivity. I will also use this to get things done that will help give the

organization a positive corporate culture to boost its identity. Thiswill ensure that all
levels of the structure will use the right symbolic cultural narrative and symbolism to
accomplish the organization's common goal and ensure that responsibilities are well
defined. This is very essential for organizational success to bring good leadership
development and professional best from all. What I will not do is not to have a well-
defined organizational structure as a guide to my organization that is needed for the
organization's values, expectations, and practice that will be in-form of a guide and
inform action for all team members to follow. This works for all the structural frames, with
the Symbolic Frame included.
