2023 Crow Summer Institute
Showcases award-winning first edition, 11,000-word Crow dictionary along with learning apps,
multimedia tools, and textbooks
WHAT Native American language loss is a reality that goes far beyond language. As first-
language speakers now in their 70s pass on, so does culture and heritage. Experts expect
90% of all Indigenous languages to disappear by the end of the century. Apsáalooke
(the Crow language) specialists are hosting events, and creating materials so their
language is used for generations.
For the 11th year in a row, Little Big Horn College in Crow Agency, Montana will host
the Crow Summer Institute. The free event is sponsored by Little Big Horn College,
committed to the professional, vocational, and personal development of Crow language
learners and teachers, and the Crow Language Consortium. It is supported by The
Language Conservancy (TLC), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting communities in
revitalizing the world’s ever-increasing number of endangered languages.
