Steam’s gaming platform has many efficient features that allow users to enjoy their favorite games. One
area that could cause issues is the installation process. A usability test concerning a clear format of
instructions on how to install games from users’ libraries has been conducted. This memo contains the
results of the usability test and offers some suggestions on how to improve user experience.

Summary
After users purchase their games through Steam’s platform there is an installation process that they
need to follow. The ease of installation can confuse some people and cause frustration surrounding this
process. The instruction packet that was provided to participants of the usability test conducted proved
to ease this frustration and show a clear and efficient way of installing games through Steam’s system.
Implementing these instructions onto Steam’s webpage and application would prove beneficial for users
and allow them to continue to use Steam to enjoy their favorite PC games.

Usability Test
A usability test was conducted to see if the instructions created were clear, efficient, and effective.
Participants were asked to follow the instructions and narrate while going through the steps. Afterwards,
participants were asked questions in order to gain some insight on their opinions of the instructions
themselves.

Results
The usability test that was conducted showed that the instructions were clear and efficient, showing
users how to install their chosen game in a clear and concise way. Feedback showed that users viewed
the instructions in a positive way, stating that they were clear and easy to understand while still aiding
them to their goal. When asked what was liked about these instructions, participants stated the clarity of
the wording and images within the packet are what was liked and helped them reach their goal.

Conclusion
The addition of instructions onto Steam’s platform would aid users in ease of use. The usability test that
was performed on an instructions packet showed a need for clear and functional instructions on Steam’s
webpage and application. The instruction packet provided to participants was widely well received and
welcomed.
