PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.
2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

The organization that I would like to look, and study is the Supply Chain issues that
Starbucks has been facing amongst the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic. Starbucks is a
global coffee chain that is known for quality cups of coffee provided a warm and
welcome space, with exceptional customer service within their values of community and
culture. The culture of Starbucks calls for innovation especially given that
“Organizational decision making is additionally complicated because the environment is
complex” (Bolman & Deal, 2021 p. 21). Certainly, as time goes by, they have been able
to tackle arising challenges and remain on top in the industry. Starbucks has devoted
themselves to nurturing every community with every interaction and conversation they
have with their community.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My role in the organization is that I am a Shift Supervisor who has worked for the last
four years at Starbucks. My role requires that I work with my team to execute store
operations and help model the guiding principles as I develop positive relationships.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader
understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require
selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the
mass of information that might be included).

In situations that revolve around supply chain issues, as a team we must put in our best
efforts into still delivering the best service and using problem solving skills to get
customers to be okay with another option and unresolved answers. At times, it is rather
hard to continually face the same issue, but now on a larger scale affecting all stores
across the globe. You can say that the workers get the worse end when dealing with upset

customers. The overall result of this situation adds on extra stress and frustration for all
parties involved. Many question why this is going on, and what are the company’s efforts
in getting back to what they initially sought out to be as a company.
