THE ACTION

October 2007 The Official Publication of the Hanover Area Jaycees Volume 66 Issue 10

Matt Boyer
October is here already... The busiest month of the year, beginning the busiest
812-1490 quarter. We will need everyone to help!
President
Before September ends, great job to everyone who helped put together the
Liz Boyer Chicken BBQ. The second of the year, these are great projects. A bit of work,
637-0373 but a lot of fun! Great job Kathy Main and committee.
Membership VP
First up this month is the National Apple Harvest Festival. Kevin Adams is
Jen Lupp chairman. This will be the third year we have the Apple Jelly Stand. Three’s a
359-7253 charm, I can’t wait to try that jelly. The first two weekends of October, your
Financial VP help is appreciated.
Katie Rohrbaugh Later in the month, Monday Oct 22, is the Miss Hanover Pageant chaired by
637-1259 Rebecca Smith. The committee is working hard to put together another great
Individual VP pageant. Good luck to all the girls competing.
Karen Sentz The 66th Annual Hanover Halloween Parade is the last Thursday, October 25.
633-5198 Nick Cracium is chairing this project, and the committee is working to make
Community VP this project a success. The manpower is certainly needed here! Please contact
Nick if you are able to help.
Troy Bolin
227-0051 Manpower for Bingo is still needed for November and December. The Bingo
Treasurer Hall in Lancaster is smoke free. The third Friday of each month, 6:00—10:30,
please let us know if you can assist with this project. Contact Jen Lupp or my-
Kelly Myers self.
637-8570
Secretary We need to work to be # 1. Not for the state, not for the Eagle, but for the chap-
ter! Participation has been low and attendance at meetings has been slim. Let’s
Kathy Main work more together to make this the successful organization it is. Especially in
637-0050 this time of the year… but anytime is the time for Hanover to be #1.
Chairman of the Board
Directors And don’t forget the November Boards coming up the first weekend of
November. The end of the third quarter already. The year has certainly
Dave Maus
633-5716 been moving fast… Don’t Back Down!

We received the attached letter from the Red Cross related to the
backpack for kid’s project. Our final donation count was 89 backpacks. The
bullet points below are what being a Jaycee are all about…

Halloween Parade meetings are scheduled for October 3, October 9, October 16 at 6:30 pm at
the Chapter House and October 21 at 4pm at the Chapter House. We will need everyone’s
help for a successful parade. There are many ways to be involved, donations of food for the
after party, small monetary donations, also if you have small children you could consider
being on our Jaycee Float. We would like 100% involvement this year from our members.
Everyone can help in some way even if you are not in attendance the day of the event. Please
contact Jim Kime 476-4401 at and let him know how you will be able to help. THANKS!

Miss Hanover Area Pageant

So far we have 10 girls signed up to compete in our pageant. They will show
their talents on Monday October 22nd at Hanover High School
Auditorium. We will need volunteers to help usher. Please contact Rebecca
Smith or Amy Smith if you are able to help.

Cadillac of Banquets $10,000 Reverse Drawing

The 51st Annual Cadillac Banquet will be here before you know it. Save the date–
Wednesday November 28th at the McSherrystown Fire Company Banquet Hall.
This reverse raffle is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We sell 224 tickets at $100
each. Each ticket holder gets dinner for two, all you can eat and drink, and a night of
fun. There are lots of chances to win and only one lucky winner will walk away with
$10,000. This year look for some new and exciting games of chance.
For information, contact Project Chair Deb Baber at 451-1494 or debbaber@embarqmail.com. For
tickets contact Ticket Sub-Chair Kathy Main at 451-8515 or Kathy.main@gmail.com. The next com-
mittee meeting is scheduled for Monday October 15th at 7pm at the chapter house.

GROUPIE INFORMA-
Liz Boyer, 2007 Membership Vice President

Over the last year, I have faced a lot of life changing obstacles. The last few months have
been the hardest due to medical reasons. I am very sorry to everyone for the delays in
response times and notifications and the failure in fulfilling some of my responsibilities as
your 2007 Membership VP. I have been reminded this week of this year’s theme… do
YOU know what it is? Well, in case you don’t, I have included the lyrics behind it on the
next page… “Won’t Back Down.” As a chapter, we have faced a lot of obstacles, not just
this year, but since the chapter ever existed. The beauty of the organization is that it is
strong in heart, and as a team and as friends, we have overcome obstacles in the past, and
we WILL overcome the obstacles ahead. But, making this chapter strong again is going to
require the input and help from EVERYONE! That means YOU! October is our busiest,
most crucial month of the year. It is also our best chance to batten down the hatches, put
past grudges behind us, focus on what’s important (whether it be personal goals, chapter
goals, or community goals) and show the Hanover Area what a great organization this is!

Here are 2 great opportunities to share the experience with others!:

October 9: MEMBER Orientation, Chapter House, 7:00PM
October 26 (YES, the night AFTER the parade): Special “M-Night” upon request… we
will enjoy an outing to a local haunted house/ hayride to celebrate our successes from the
month and just have FUN!! Meet at the Chapter House at 6:45 to help vote on a scary desti-
nation! We will depart at 7:00!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Well I wont back down, no I wont back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I wont back down

Gonna stand my ground, wont be turned around

And Ill keep this world from draggin me down
Gonna stand my ground and I wont back down

Hey baby, there aint no easy way out

Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down.

Well I know whats right, I got just one life

In a world that keeps on pushin me around
But Ill stand my ground and I wont back down

Hey baby there aint no easy way out

Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down
No, I wont back down

Are YOU busy?? Do you want to help and just can’t seem to find the time?? Here’s a
solution! We NEED help in order to make our biggest project of the year a success!
We NEED YOU! And there are plenty of ways that you and your friends and family
can help! From set-up the day before and the afternoon of the parade to donating food
items for the Post-Parade Party, even a simple monetary donation would help to pur-
chase supplies. Have children or responsibilities and want to help in some way but
don’t know how? We can help you figure it out! This week, Jim Kime, the manpower
sub-chair, will be contacting you to help you figure out a way to make a difference in a
time frame and way that is convenient for you! Thank you in advance for the support
and dedication to this most outstanding project!
