☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.
☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.
X Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.
I will start by showing my example eBook for the students, so they know what they are going
to be doing for their project. Students will be partnered up and choose to research the life
cycles of different animals. Each group of students will have to sign up for a different animal
so they will be no duplicates. They will have to research the different stages of life for the
animal they signed up for. Students will create a narrated PowerPoint about their selected
animal and its life cycle.
The title slide will have the name of the animal they researched and include both of their
names. They will then add a slide for each step of the life cycle of their selected animal and
an explanation of what is happening at each step. They will also include a picture of that
stage and cite where they got the picture from. Once they are finished, they will record them
“presenting” their animals life cycle. They will have a day to do research and then two days to
work on their PowerPoint in class and if extra time is needed, they can work on it outside of
school. When it is being worked on in class the teacher will be there to help students when
needed. Then they will upload their final product to canvas or similar software for grading.
They will then be played for the class so students can learn about other animals’ life cycles.
Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
When students are creating their PowerPoint, they will be working in pairs. They will be
working together to create a PowerPoint of the animal’s life cycle that they signed up for.
They will be told they have a day for research and then two days to work on the project and if
they need to, they will have to work on it outside the classroom. This will make sure they can
allocate their time correctly so they can finish their eBook by the deadline.
