First of all, I want to praise to the almighty Allah SWT and blessing to the prophet Muhammad SAW. To the honourable judges, good morning, good afternoon and good evening on every occasion you watch this video. Before I start my speech, I’d like to ask some questions. Can Indonesian youth contribute to creating world peace? Then, what’s the effort we can do? I’m Nyimas Virna Salsa Lestari Risqia from four senior high school Jambi as an Indonesian youth who will deliver speech about Indonesia’s Youth’s Effort to Achieve World Peace. World peace is an idea of freedom, peace, and happiness for all nations and countries that includes aspect of human rights, technology, education, engineering, medicine, diplomats and the end of strife. Peace is not just non-violence. More than that, peace also means justice and improvement. The first paragraph of The 1945 Constitution of The Republic of Indonesia defines world peace: “Whereas freedom is the inalienable right of nations, colonialism must be abolished in this world as it is not in conformity with humanity and justice.” In the fourth paragraph, Indonesia also sets world peace as a purpose of country. Indonesian foreign relations have adhered to a “free and active” foreign policy. According to Cipto Wardoyo, four attempts can be made to bring about world peace. First, through a cultural approach. Second, through a social and economic approach. Third, through a political approach. Fourth, by a religious approach. Through a cultural approach, it’s one of the easiest ways that I think anyone can do. There is a saying, “The best diplomacy starts when getting to know each other” -George W. Bush. How do we want to make friends when we ourselves don’t want to know who our friend is? How we want to establish peace when we don’t at all recognize the characteristics of a nation. One of the many ways is to do to know the culture from each country with student exchange programs and volunteer work. From both student exchange and volunteering, we get to see environmental conditions and to communicate directly with them, what do they think about, their normal daily activities. However, not everyone can have this opportunity, but surely there is another way. Indonesia has some 64.19 million young people, which is about 24,02% of Indonesia's population. In this age of globalization, almost all Indonesians are familiar with technologies that are sure to open their way and more information to whoever is using them. Surely one of the effects of widespread use of the Internet was cultural exchange. We can make friend through some social media that we used to use, such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or apps have a function to find friends around the world. For example, ‘Slowly’ as I know. I find new friends around the world and share our experiences, our culture and learn new languages from there. However, a downside of the internet is that we can’t control internet users. It can lead to disunity. So be wise in social media. I believe all humans would hope for peace for freedom in living life. It should be that we, as one of the countries that has large populations, can contribute toward keeping world peace. Thank you very very much. Wassalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
