HI – FOG Sprinkler System
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The Marioff Hi-fog® system is designed for machinery spaces.

The Marioff Hi-fog® fire extinguishing system uses water under high pressure,
and is based on established hydraulic principles and technology. The specially designed
spray heads cause the water to enter the space as fine fog (mist) at high speed. The small
droplets yield a very large total water surface area, providing efficient cooling of the fire
and surrounding gases. The high speed of the small droplets enables the fog to penetrate
hot flue gases and reach the combustion source, even in large, hidden fires.
The system consists of the following main components:
• a Machinery space Local application Pump Unit (MLPU) containing pressure pump;
• an electric control and monitoring system, including a relay control unit on the pump
unit and a control & indication panel at the ECR;
• stainless steel piping;
• machinery section valves;
• spray heads for discharging of fog;
• Filters for the water feeding system, as well as strainers in the spray heads.
In machinery spaces the dry valve system is used and is activated when one section
valve is opened. The pump unit will start supplying the activated section with a fog at a
pressure of approximately 70 bar. Additional sections can be activated, as required.

DRY PIPE SECTION VALVES

A dry pipe system operates in the machinery spaces on 2nd platform deck, on 1st
platform deck and on upper deck.
• Ml, Diesel Generator Engine
• M2, Maine Boiler No.2
• M3, Maine Boiler No. 1
• M4, LG. Generator
• M5, Incinerator Room
The Sections M1-M5 are normally operated remotely at the Control & Indication Panel
(ECR) or by pushbutton from inside the protected space.
Each section can also be released by manually opening the section valve and
starting the pump unit manually.
