course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.
*Disclaimer: The situation of my original paper in module 1 was not of a current or former
employer of mine. Due to this I have changed my situation to reflect my current employer and
have changed the names of employees and of the organization.
Starting in 2015 the employees of Cool AC had to transition from more of a Machine
Bureaucracy which was large and slow paced in terms of growth and having had been
operating since the 80’s by all accounts were stuck in their ways during this time, they
found themselves transitioning to more of a Simple Structure. This was best defined as a
corporation with only two structures “a strategic apex and an operating level(Bolman &
Deal 2021).” This came as a necessity as many of these employees were close and had
been working together for 10-20 years at this point.
1
The structure which is now the basis of my situation is more of a corporate restructure as
the company continues to grow and has assessed the need to become more structured it is
shifting from this simple structure to more of a blend between Divisionalized Form and
Adhocracy as I see it. The main factors in my determination of this being the new
corporate structure is the clear separations between departments which collectively come
together to create the companies functions as we have controls, equipment, and air
distribution as our main selling points, these blend together with Adhocracy which lends
itself to our ability to continuously grow and adapt to a changing market with factors
such as covid and an uncertain economic climate.
3) Recommend how you would use structure for an alternative course of action
regarding your case.
I believe that this blend of style and structure is for the best course of action for this shift
in company ideology. As noted in our text book “falling victim to the one-best0system or
one-size-fits-all mentality is a route to disaster (Bolman & Deal 2021).” This to me
signifies that the organization is extremely smart to take what worked best for them in
their previous smaller state and apply some of this to the larger organization they are
becoming today.
This blend of ideology and realization of need to adapt and help stay in line with the ideal
of Organizational Growth, environmental shift, and technology changes as reasons to
restructure an organziatin. With this being said I would not change much from the current
structure to aid in this organizational transition.
4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.
Having had read about organizational restructure/structure I have come to the conclusion
that I would not make any adjustments to the current methods being used by my
organization of Cool AC. The reason being as stated above I feel that the blend of old and
new ideals is great for diversity and stability within the organization. As they look to
standardize practices and processes they are continuously looking and listening to all
feedback from any place in the organizational structure.
Couple all of this with what can best be described as a youth movement within my
organization and it is apparent that their goal is to get younger, smarter, and more
efficient while adapting to a new age of workforce needs and boundaries. All of this is
conducive to an appealing and healthy organizational restructure looking to maximize
their employee and customer satisfaction
