Statement of Purpose

With all of the pieces in place, I've decided to pursue higher education in the field
of Regulatory Affairs. I am pleased to present my statement of purpose, stating my
intent to pursue my Master’s program at the prestigious Northeastern University in
Toronto.
During my time in school, I developed a strong understanding of the field of
science. After graduating from high school, I enrolled in the esteemed Manipal
Academy of Higher Education's undergraduate degree program in pharmaceutical
sciences. My approach towards learning has always placed equal emphasis on
classroom and practical experiences. During the course of my undergraduate
studies, my academic performance has always been commendable and consistent
across all semesters. I was in the top ten percent of students with a cumulative
GPA of 8.36/10 and cleared all my semesters with distinction. While completing
my bachelor’s degree at Manipal University, I got the opportunity to develop both
my academic and professional skills. I have focused on all aspects of
pharmaceutical sciences during my course of study. In specific terms, the fields of
Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs interest me the most.
During the final year of my Bachelor’s program I opted for the course of
Pharmaceutical Marketing and Business Administration where I got the
opportunity to learn about Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management, Regulatory
Affairs and documentation, Intellectual Property Rights, and Professional
Development and Entrepreneurship modules. I also worked on two review papers
as part of my coursework during my final semester. The first review paper that I
worked on was based on the rise of the online pharmaceutical sector in India and
the challenges it faced. The second review paper covered Warning letters issued by
the FDA to pharmaceutical companies for violations of the clinical trial guidelines.
Overall, my Bachelor’s in pharmaceutical sciences gave me a broad understanding
of the industry which I think will be of great utility in the field of Regulatory
Affairs.
Along with my academic engagements, I was part of a student club known as The
Think tank. I served on the club's management committee, which was in charge of
planning events for university students, including Ted Talks and motivational
programs. A non-profit group named Volunteer Service Organization (VSO) was
an important club to which I passionately devoted my time. We organized
fundraiser events like the Manipal marathon, conducted visits to pediatric wards
and raised awareness about public health at orphanages and also carried out blood
donation drives. Ultimately, contributing to such diverse projects not only helped
me develop strong moral values but also inculcated a sense of empathy and
compassion for society which further transformed me into a better healthcare
professional.
I currently work for Healthbest Pvt. Ltd. as a regulatory Executive. It is an Indian
Nutraceutical and Health supplements firm situated in Gujarat. During my role as a
regulatory Executive, I've had the chance to handle responsibilities such as
evaluation of quality studies for both finished goods and raw materials (API). I
have also made visits to production facilities in order to perform the duties of
quality assurance and sampling. This has helped me gain insight into the workings
of the industry. 
My next course of action is to supplement my academic and work experience with
a Master’s Degree in Regulatory Affairs. It is my desire to pursue a Master’s
degree at Northeastern University in Toronto. Northeastern University is situated
in one of Canada’s most multi-cultural cities and provides infrastructure that is
very conducive to learning. The well-planned and organized curriculum provided
by the university is one of the most notable features of this program. With its main
focus on Quality Assurance and Compliance, the broad curriculum covers all vital
aspects of Pharmaceuticals, Biologics and Medical Devices. Apart from the well-
designed curriculum another noteworthy factor is the provision of co-op
opportunities for students. This provides students with the perfect environment to
utilize their theoretical knowledge in real world experiences. I believe that NEU is
offering a program that is tailored to meet my preferred course of action. Studying
in a research-intensive university along with like-minded scholars will surely
provide considerable addition to my knowledge and skill-set. The knowledge and
skills that will be imparted to me will not only assist me in securing great career
opportunities in India but also help me to improve the Indian healthcare system.
