Checking the moisture meter and product contents

Checking the sensor and product

contents
NOTICE!
Risk of damage!
If you are not cautious when opening the
packaging with a sharp knife or other pointy
object, you may quickly damage the mois-
ture meter.
− Be very careful when opening.
1. Take the moisture meter and the battery out of the
packaging.
2. Check whether the moisture meter or the battery ex-
hibit damage. If this is the case, do not use the moisture
meter. Contact the manufacturer at the service address
specified on the warranty card.
3. Check to make sure that the delivery is complete (see
fig. A).

14
Operation

Operation
Inserting the battery
1. Open the battery compartment cover 8 on the back of
the moisture meter (see fig. B).
2. Insert the battery in the battery compartment. Make
sure the terminals are aligned correctly (see Fig. C).
3. Close the battery compartment cover.

Before taking the measurement

1. Use a dry cloth to get rid of wet residue on the surface of
the material.
2. Remove any salt on the surface of the material. Salts
increase the conductivity of water and falsify the meas-
urement result.
3. Remove the bark from firewood if applicable and split it
in the middle.
4. Push the probe 2 perpendicular to the direction of
fibre in the wood and measure at multiple points. For
example, 5 – 10 cm away from the saw edges and in the
middle.
If the probes are inserted in the direction of the fibre,
slightly elevated measurements can result.

15
Operation

Taking a measurement
CAUTION!
Risk of injury!
The probes of the moisture meters are pointy.
You could prick and injure yourself.
− Never point the probes at other persons
and animals.
− After use, put the protective cap on the
probes.
NOTICE!
Risk of damage!
The probes are pointy. You can damage the
material and leave holes.
− With sensitive materials, take measure-
ments in an inconspicuous area. The softer
the material, the more likely it is that the
probes will leave behind holes.
The moisture meter only measures up to the depth you
insert the probes in the material. The probes 2 must be
firmly pressed into the material to be measured and pen-
etrate the wood, the plaster etc.

16
Operation

1. Switch the moisture meter on with the On/Off button ( )

6 .
The display 3 shows 0.0 %, the ambient temperature
in °C and the selected material (1 – 6). See the table at
the end of this chapter.
The temperature display can be switched between °C
and °F. To do so, press and hold the lock button ( ) 5
for about 3 seconds.
2. To set the moisture meter to the material you intend to
measure, push the mode button 4 repeatedly until the
correct number is shown on the display. See the table at
the end of this chapter.
3. Take the protective cap off 1 .
4. Push the both probes into the surface of the material at
the same time.
After 1 – 2 seconds, the percentage will be shown.
With rough surfaces, you apply more pressure to the
probes if necessary. You do not have to apply excessive
force to get a correct result.
For measurements below the measurement range, 0.0
% or LO will appear on the display. HI is displayed for
measurements above the measurement range.
5. Take measurements on various areas of the surface and
determine a mean value. Add all measurements to-
gether and divide the result by the number of measure-
ments.
17
Operation

If you are measuring a natural product, the same mate-

rials from different batches may return different results.
6. If you take a measurement in one area where the dis-
play cannot be read, press the lock button ( ) 5 .
The reading is saved and the lock symbol ( ) appears.
7. To take a new measurement, push the lock button ( )
again.
8. To switch the moisture meter off, push the On/Off button
( ) and put the protective cap back on the probes.
Automatic switch-off: The moisture meter will also auto-
matically switch off after being inactive for 60 seconds.
