Write your responses to the items below. Make sure to answer each of the questions in your responses. Note
that the minimum word count for full credit is 150 words (total of all responses). Your instructor will grade
you according to the grading rubric in the assignment in your course.
When referencing a passage, include the citation and paste the actual passage into your response. If the
passage is long, just cite it and abbreviate or summarize it so the reader knows what the passage is about
but it doesn’t take up too many lines on this report.
We had a video conference with the elderly last Friday. I explained my desire that Ezekias begin to receive
the necessary lessons for preparation for baptism, since his parents were inactive. I thought I should
explain what baptism is and what covenants are. I shared that the first two principles of the gospel are faith
in the Lord Jesus Christ and repentance. And that baptism is the first ordinance of the gospel. I read and
taught the following:
- The first two principles of the gospel are faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and repentance.
- When we place our faith in Jesus Christ, repent and are baptized, our sins are forgiven through the
Atonement of Jesus Christ.
- Acts 2:38 “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins.”
- D&C 20:37 “All those who humble themselves before God, and desire to be baptized…that…have truly
repented of all their sin…shall be received by baptism into his church.
- Alma Taught that when we are baptized, we make covenants with the Lord to:
Come into the fold of God.
Bear one another’s burdens.
Always stand as a witness of God and in all places.
Serve God and keep his commandments.
-When we are baptized and keep the covenants of baptism, the Lord promises to:
Forgive our sins.
Pour out his spirit more abundantly upon us.
Give us daily guidance and the help of the Holy Ghost
Let us come forth in the first Resurrection.
Give us eternal life.
- Alma 7:14“Now I say unto you that ye must repent, and be born again; for the Spirit saith if ye are not
born again ye cannot inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore come and be baptized unto repentance, that
ye may be washed from your sins, that ye may have faith on the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of
the world, who is mighty to save and to cleanse from all unrighteousness.
- Alma 7:15 “Yea, I say unto you come and fear not, and lay aside every sin, which easily doth beset you,
which doth bind you down to destruction, yea, come and go forth, and show unto your God that ye are
willing to repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with him to keep his commandments, and witness it
unto him this day by going into the waters of baptism.
- Alma 7:16 “And whosoever doeth this, and keepnet the commandments of God from thenceforth, the
same will remember that I say unto him, yea, he will remember that I have said unto him, he shall have
eternal life, according to the testimony of the Holy Spirit, which testified in me.
I explained to Ezequias that I knew that he was now able to fully understand the difference between right
and wrong and the consequences for bad choices. I also know that he understood what a covenant was
and that keeping sacred promises is very important. I feel glad to know that he understands baptism and is
interested in getting baptized.
His parents had been inactive in the church for quite some time. Ezekias was about to turn 8 years old
when they stopped attending church. I learned that with my spiritual learning at Pathway Connect I could
bring him closer to my Savior Jesus Christ. I want him to experience great spiritual growth.
• A deeper insight I gained is that I should read and discuss my scripture study with my son. He seems to
have a bit of difficulty expressing his feelings towards religious conversations. I believe that by applying my
study of the scriptures with Hezekiah talks, it will help you to better express your feelings when praying or
talking about religious topics.
