Feelings or Faith?

So often we look to our feelings or our symptoms to evaluate how we are doing. That is
the environment of the natural man and woman. Adam’s sin made us slaves of our
senses.
When we are born again, we enter into a new dimension of living. We are no longer
limited to our feelings and senses.
For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Cor. 5:7)
Faith is a relationship with the invisible. It is exalting God’s Word above our feelings
and senses. It is choosing to not bow the knee to symptoms, but rather to establish the
Truth as the final word in our lives. Such a life is available to all believers, but few
choose to live this way.
When I was battling cancer, it became very apparent to me that I was living on three
levels simultaneously. My body had symptoms and sensations. My soul (mind, will,
emotions) was a daily roller coaster. But my spirit was where the victory was. In my
spirit I had faith and peace. I knew I would live and not die. While my body and
emotions would change frequently, I chose to live from my spirit. Faith is spiritual.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Heb.
11:1)
The “evidence of things not seen” is a spiritual reality. Faith is not when the senses and
feelings are all perfect. Faith is taking the place of that which is imperfect until it comes
into line with God’s Word.
. . . while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not
seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen
are eternal. (2 Cor. 4:18)
The capacity to “see the unseen” is unique to believers. We are not limited to our five
senses. We have the spirit of faith (2 Cor. 4:13). Taking the time to “see” the victory is
the key to walking by faith, not by sight. Meditating in God’s promises until they are
conceived in our hearts is where the “seeing” happens. Once there is conception, there
is “knowing”, and finally receiving. This is faith.
