Today we did the following:
- Orientation about Sacred
Heart Hospital
- tour around the facilities
- drug study 2 drugs,
Diazepam & Ephedrine
- assist as circulating nurse in
2 cases
- post op monitoring of
patients
- assisted in extubating with
supervision
- after care of OR instruments

Today, I started off really excited to 8
finally be assigned in the Operating
room area of our duty again. I assisted
as a circulating nurse while my partner
assisted as a scrub nurse, we were both
able to assist in the initial and final
counting of instruments. By the end we
also got to learn about assisting
suturing.
Learning how to after care instruments
is also very valuable to me since it it’s
one of the roles that a nurse attends to
in the operating ward. I was really
shocked how different the setting was
in this hospital compared to our
previous hospital rotation. Everything
was up to standards and the equipment
and protocols being used were more
advanced.
The activities I did today were very
physically taxing, however I find it
worth it and especially refreshing since

Feb 8, First Day of duty Baliuag District
2023 Hospital LR/DR
Today we did the following:
- orientation and tour of bdh
- drug study of oxytocin
the operating procedures piqued my
interest.
Today is the first time I got to
experience being a Head nurse.
Thankfully I was able to do my tasks and
delegate properly throughout the day. I
also got to scrub in two procedures
today, I instantly felt the rush and felt a
bit nervous. Our clinical instructor
joined me throughout the whole
procedure. When we started the
procedure, I only felt nervous for the
first few minutes, but I was able to
adjust quickly, the doctor and my
clinical instructor even joked about it
since they both knew it was my first
time scrubbing in after a long break. As 8
the surgery went by, I started to get
into rhythm, and be calmer, the doctor
and my CI were both very encouraging
and taught me techniques whenever
they had the chance. I learned how to
handle retractors, cut sutures, and
assist the doctor during the suturing
process, I even go the rare chance of
cutting an appendix. During my
experience today, I realized that it is
important to have a presence of mind
and the ability to multitask under a lot
of pressure, I also felt very lucky to have
these experiences.
Having the chance to manage a 8
newborn child still feels like an entirely
new experience for me. At the
beginning I was very hesitant to touch
the baby because I thought of them to
be very fragile but as I saw the pediatric

nurses handle them initially, I was able
to dry the newborn thoroughly, dress
and administer vaccinations. I was also
amazed by how quick the procedure
was finished, it felt very hectic the
moment the mother came into the
delivery room and it was over in
minutes.
Refreshing our memory about the
different cases on the afternoon was
another very interesting highlight to our
day, it helped us learn a brief overview
about our cases and the corresponding
diagnosis that they have.
Throughout our first days of duty in
BDH LR/DR we experienced a lot of new
things and protocols. Being able to
health teach patients and actually talk
to the mothers while they are anxiously
waiting during labor really made me
feel like I was making a difference and 8
actually helping. I was also able to take
part in my first D&C operation, I was
able to assist well and the OB and
nurses were very accommodating in
terms of helping me. Overall my
experiences in BDH LR/DR are still very
short and I look forward for more.
