First Day of duty: Baliuag District Today is our first day in the OB ward of
OB Medical Ward Baliuag District hospital. I did not really
know what to expect and I was a bit
Today we did the following: nervous. At first I was nervous since I
- orientation to ob ward don’t know how i’m supposed to
approach the mothers especially when I
- taking of vital signs mother need to assess private parts but as the
day went on I got comfortable as long
- reading and interpretation of chart
as I asked for their consents first. The
- charting of for discharge patient workload in this ward was a lot lighter
compared to last week in the medical
- changing of dressing ward, the patients did not have a lot of
Feb medications or labs to be administered.
- endorsement
20, I also experienced changing wound 8
2023 - helped in medical ward dressings for the first time. I was able to
finish charting and endorsing early in
our ward since my patient received may
go home orders, so I went to the
medical ward and assisted some of my
classmates there with permission from
our Clinical instructor. It was very hectic
compared to our time there but they
managed and I was able to learn extra
insights and practice.

Feb Second Day of duty: Baliuag District Today our workload was a lot heavier, 8
21, Hospital OB Ward we took the entire ob ward including
2023 their babies, so I had 4 patients in total.
Today we did the following: It was my first-time handling babies and
- taking of vital signs mother and once again, I started off very unsure. I
baby observed how our Clinical instructor did
the routine procedures on babies and I
- reading and interpretation of chart was able to apply it well when it was my
turn. I was able to catch up well as most
- removing of IV line
of the things we did were already
- charting for discharge patient routine procedures in the medical ward.
I also took my patient’s history today
- endorsement where I was able to learn about my
- health history taking patient. Later in the day we had a slight
issue, when my patient tried to leave
the hospital without clearance. It was
the first time I saw a patient do that as i
witnessed How the nurses in the station
argued with them and handled the
situation when the patient’s husband
got agitated. I can say that I learned a
lot of things today that one can only
learn through experiences outside
academics, and I am grateful.

Third Day of duty: Baliuag District Today was another adjustment for us,
Hospital OB Ward mainly because we had a different Built
in Clinical instructor again, she was a lot
Today we did the following: more stricter than the others, but I also
- taking of vital signs mother and was able to learn a lot more from her.
baby The day started in a hectic manner since
we had to finish our may go home
- reading and interpretation of chart patients charting quickly before we can
process it for discharge. We also got to
- removing of IV line
learn the different departments we had
- charting for discharge patient to bring the charts to before it gets
Feb settled. I also got the chance to observe
22, - oriented about process of how to administer an enema for the 8
2023 discharging patients first time. And like yesterday, the
husband of my patient was very
- observed suppository meds
agitated and kept insisting on going
administration
home, despite their billing not being
- endorsement processed yet, I also advised them prior
about ways in which they can settle
- health history taking their bills. This day was a combination
of learnings both technical and
personal. I got the chance to handle a
patient who needed an advocate and
someone who would help them not just
for their health needs.

Feb Fourth Day of duty: Baliuag District Today I was able to handle a post op 8
23, OB Medical Ward modified radical mastectomy patient.
2023 She also happened to be a nurse in the
Today we did the following: hospital, so I was a bit anxious while
- Taking vital signs handling her, I also got the chance to
drain my patient’s jackson drain, and
- reading and interpretation of chart injected IM medications, thankfully she
was kind and taught me techniques to
- preparation and administration of
make my work more efficient. We also
meds
did our ward class today, it was a
- draining of jackson drain unique experience and it felt fulfilling to
be teaching mothers about the
- IM injection importance of newborn screening,
breastfeeding, and family planning.
- endorsement
Lastly we did our posttest exam where I
- Ward class got to measure the sum of my
knowledge for the week. My
- Post test experiences in this ward gave me a lot
of professional insight as well as
knowledge that I could use in terms of
handling emotional patients.
