QUESTION 1
Elaborate TWO (2) lessons learnt from the story.

From the story, I have learnt that we should respect people around
us, especially our neighbours. In this story, Barbara’s neighbour really
disrespect the neighbourhood with the unbearable noise and keep playing
music in loud volume even though Barbara already told him to turn down
the volume twice. This unpleasant issue should not exist in society. For
me, every person has their own struggles such as for students, their
struggle with studies and some of the people just want to enjoy their time
with family or hobbies so the loud music really ruined the moment and
disturbed them. The noise that you have made not only makes them
annoyed with you but also can make a huge fight with the neighbours if
you keep doing it.

The second lesson that I have learnt from this story is we must
know the correct way to make complaints professionally. As we know
from the text it clearly stated that Barbara can not control her temper
anymore so she went to her neighbour’s house and screamed at him to
turn down the volume or else she will kill him if he does not do what he
asked to do. If I were Barbara, I would do the same thing too but this kind
of action shows how unprofessional I am to solve the problem. One of the
best steps we can take is discussing the problem with other neighbours
and make a complaint letter to the local council leader together. To
conclude, the two lessons that I have learnt in this story are that we
should respect people around us especially our neighbours and we must
know the correct way to make complaints professionally.
QUESTION 2

If you were Barbara, what would you do to make sure that your
neighbours are not disturbing you? Give two (2) solutions to what you
can do.

If I were Barbara, I would renovate my house to make my house

more soundproof from outside noise. As we know that when we live in a
community, there are certain neighbours who disrespect other people by
making loud noise and unbearable sound so trying to quiet noisy
neighborhoods is even harder than renovating our house. When a house is
equipped with some form of soundproofing, it can be insufferable at times. A
few ways to soundproof my house from outside noise are to fix any holes
or cracks in walls and replace or repair all windows. Besides, I also can
consider putting up heavy curtains from a heavier material at each
window and build bookshelves and fill it with books to help absorb any
extra noise.
Another solution is to meet up with all the neighbourhoods who are
interested in building a better community with their neighbours to discuss
more improved ways of dealing with neighbourhood harassment or
violence. When I meet up with them, I can mention and discuss a list of
boundaries for neighbours, then make sure all the neighbourhood
members follow all the community’s rules. One of the rules is not to make
any noise after 8.00 at night until 7.00 in morning so people can have a
nice rest at night to get a good sleep quality and start their day with a
positive vibe without any disturbance. Hence, I strongly believe that
renovating a house can make my house more soundproof from outside
noise and meeting up with all the neighbourhoods to discuss more
improved ways of dealing with neighbourhood harassment or violence
can build a better community.
