LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET 3A

Code:R1Q3IM6
Name of Student:
Learning Area: RESEARCH 1 Grade & Sec:
Date:

I. Introduction

The Integrated Research Process Skills Part II also reiterates the

importance of using appropriate measuring and observation tools in
data gathering. Knowledge of descriptive analysis facilitates the
researchers to be in pace with experimentation procedures and gives
meaningful interpretation of the results from actual observation.

II. Learning Skills from the LCs:

1. Use appropriate measuring and observation tools in gathering data SSP_RS7-IPS-III-p-20
2. Evaluate gathered data SSP_RS7-IPS-III-q-r21

Objectives:
1. Define analysis and interpretation of data.
2. Describe descriptive analysis, e.g. measure of central tendency, frequency distribution, and measure
of variability.
3. Use appropriate measuring and observation tools in gathering data

III. Task#1. From the graphs of your survey, choose which you would like to get the details. The
Respondents’ Will are well represented by color of each birth order.

ACTIVITY 1: COLOR MY WILL!

From the above example, the question posted was, what was the respondents’ birth order. It shows that,
out 15 respondents, 40%(6/15) were the eldest/first born , 33.3%(5/15) were the youngest, 20%
(3/15)were the second and 6.6% (1/15)the rest falls on other birth order. There was no respondent who is
an only child.
You may also organize your data using Tables as shown below:

Ungrouped Data: Grouped Data:

Respondents Birth Order
Birth Order Tally Frequency
A Second
First/Eldest ////-/ 6
B First/ Eldest
Second /// 3
C First/ Eldest Other / 1
D Youngest Youngest //// 5
E Youngest Total 15
F Youngest
G Youngest
H Second
I Other
J First/ Eldest
K First/ Eldest
L Second
M First/ Eldest
N First/ Eldest
O Youngest
Q1. Which is more comprehensive and easy to understand at first
glance?
____________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________
Q2. What can you say about the ungrouped data versus grouped data?
____________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________
Q3. What can you conclude from the survey results?
____________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________
Q4. Why do you think the researcher asked for the respondents’ birth order? What does it implicate?
____________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________
Now, if you can derive meanings from your gathered/collected data and if conclusions, significance and
implications are determined, then you are simply analyzing and interpreting your data.

FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTION
A frequency distribution is an overview of all distinct values in some variable and the number of times they
occur. That is, a frequency distribution tells how frequencies are distributed over values.

Q5. Give the importance of studying frequency distribution.

Given the following Raw Data of Student A Report Card:

Subject Q1 Subject Q1
Filipino 90 AP 87
English 90 Filipino 90
Math 92 English 90
Science 94 TLE 90
AP 87 Math 92

Answer these questions using the data below:

Q7. What is the simple mean of the above grades of Student A?

____________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________
Q8. Determine the median of the of the above grades.
____________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________
Q9. What is the mode?
____________________________________________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________

The MEAN ( x )FOR THE UNGROUPED DATA is obtained by dividing the sum of all values by the
number of values in the data set.

∑x
Mean for Population Data: µ = where: µ is the mean population
N
∑ x is the summation of x
N is the population size

∑x
Mean for Sample Data: x= where: x is the sample mean
n
∑ x is the summation of x
n is the sample size
The MEDIAN (~ x ¿ FOR THE UNGROUPED DATA is the value of the middle term in a data set that has
been ranked in increasing/decreasing order.
For odd numbers, the Value of Median : ~
x=
n+1
(2)
th term in a ranked data set.

If there is an even number of numbers add the two middles and divide by 2. The result will be
the median.
The MODE ( ^x ¿ is the value that occurs with the highest frequency.

A data set may have none or many modes, whereas it will have only one mean and only one median.

The data set with only ONE mode is UNIMODAL.

The data set with TWO modes ia called BIMODAL.
The data set with MORE THAN TWO MODES is called MULTIMODAL.

Task#2. Using your survey results, pick one question where it shows frequency of choices, say, age,
gender and the like. Try to get the central measures. Show your results.
