MEDIUM VOLTAGE CABLES
PART - 1 GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. General:
1. Furnish all labour, materials, tools, equipment, and services for medium voltage
cables as indicated in the drawings and in accord with provisions of Contract
Documents.
2. Completely coordinate with work of all other trades.
3. Although such work is not specifically indicated, furnish and install all
supplementary or miscellaneous items, appurtenances and devices incidental to or
necessary for a sound, secure and complete installation.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop drawings: Required for Owner's review.
B. Product data: Required for Owner's review.
1.04 TESTING
All cables shall be tested at the factory in accordance with the latest standards as
specified herein. Following completion of the tests, four certified copies of the test
reports shall be submitted to the Owner not later than 10 days after completion of all
factory tests.
PART - 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
This specification covers the requirement of cross linked ploy ethylene (XLPE)
insulated cables. The cables covered by this specifications are copper conductors XLPE
insulation and PVC sheath. Cables to be installed as direct buried shall be steel wire
armored cables.
Cables shall be capable of operating at sustained conductor temperature of 90 ºC. and
suitable for a maximum short circuit temp. of 250 ºC for 5 seconds.
Cables shall be constructed in accordance with IEC 502.83
2.02 REFERENCES
1. IEC 228 conductors of insulated cables.
2. IEC 230 impulse tests on cables and their accessories.
3. IEC 502 extruded solid dielectric insulated power cables for rated voltage from 1
KV up to 30 KV.
4. IEC 540 tests methods for insulation and sheaths of electric cables and cords.
(Elastomeric and thermoplastic compounds).
PART - 3 EXECUTION
3.01 INSALLATION
The cables shall be installed in uPVC ducts or shall be installed as direct buried, and as
indicated on drawings.
