Industrial disasters are very devastating in nature. As we all know, these can change lives of
many things present in the world. So, I have chosen a devastating nuclear disaster of
Chernobyl for describing the potential of industrial disasters to damage the lives of many.

INTRODUCTION

Chernobyl nuclear power plant is established in Ukraine which had the potential of
providing electricity to meet 10% of total electricity needs of the entire Europe in that year
of 1984.This disaster came on 26 April 1986 , which raised many ethical questions on
stakeholders of this power plant. This disaster killed around 90,000 human beings and
released a large amount of radioactive radiation which was also responsible for deaths of
many animals .
This disaster became a root cause of thyroid cancer in many people , including children due
to intense exposure of these radioactive radiations. Effects of this disaster were so intense
that even after 36 years of this disaster , the complete area in the surrounding of that plant
in circle of 30 km radius is completely inhabitable for human beings and has now become a
home for large number of wild animals. Now, only government officials or staffs of this plant
have permission to work in that exclusion zone because even now also 3 out of 4 reactors in
this plant are generating electricity for needs of Ukraine.

CAUSE

After the second world war , USSR constructed many nuclear plants in Ukraine. One of these
plants was the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
