LINKING WORDS

The following words can be used to link ideas in separate


sentences.

Notice that linking words are used at the start of a sentence.

Some linking words that have the same meaning as ‘and’ include:

 Also,
 In addition,
 Additionally,
 Moreover,
 Furthermore, Eg: Tom is a hard-working student.
 What’s more, ( Linking Word ), he is very polite.
 Besides this,
 As well as this,
 On top of this,
 In addition to this,
 Apart from this,

Some linking words that have the same meaning as ‘but’ include:

 However,
 Nevertheless,
 On the other hand, Eg: Tom has achieved good results in Maths.
 By contrast, ( Linking Word ), he needs to spend more
 Despite this, time checking his work.
 In spite of this,

Rewrite the following sentences using an appropriate linking word.
