ACTION RESEARCH
(Grade 8 Science)
S.Y. 2017-2018
I. Situation
Grade 8 students with difficulties in understanding abstract concepts in selected
Science topics, serving as one of the primary reasons in getting low grades in the
aforementioned subject.
II. Problems
1. Why some of the grade 8 students have difficulties in understanding certain topics?
2. Why some of the students are not interested in some topics of science?
3. Why some of the students failed to get the main gist of the video presentation?
4. Why some students hard to visualize certain topics?
IV. ACTION
A. STRATEGY
1. The teacher will employ appropriate teaching strategies and methodologies that
will aid learner`s understanding.
2. Checked the answers of the students after an evaluation has given, eliminate
hesitations or queries regarding the topic.
B. Data to be collected
1. Formative scores
2. Summative scores
The topic that was discuss by the teacher include the following: fault,
earthquakes, and tropical cyclones. The experimental group, were subjected to
multimedia presentation way of instruction, while the control group were exposed to
traditional method of teaching.
In order to measure their comprehension level of the two group, their formative
and summative test scores were obtained.
The table 1 and 2 below shows the formative MPS of the control and
experimental group.
Table 3 shows the average Summative MPS of the control group . The average of
the two section was 60.15.
The students got a low score during the assessment period because of the
language used or the medium of instruction was English. Some words that were use
were not common to them. Thus, less understanding for the particular topic is achieve.
Therefore, the students` comprehension level is better when they are exposed
to multimedia presentation compared to students exposed to printed visual aids and
chalk talk methods.
